I have a rather boring birthday. Except for Julius Ceasar.
So, my eye. It started itching...tuesday, not the tuesday that just passed but the one before that. I went to the doctor because it was swollen shut the next day. She said allergic reaction and gave me meds. That turned out to be not true and it got progressively worse over the next few days. Monday, I went to an opthamologist who told me that I needed to go to the hospital right then. She told me I was going to lose most of my sight in that eye and maybe the eye itself.
So I went to the hospital where I was examined by a whole bunch of doctors (the first attractive men I've seen in Spain were the doctors at this hospital, kinda sad that I looked like the victim of domestic abuse). They told me that I might have to be in the hospital for up to a month, depending, and that I would probably lose most of the eyesight in my left eye. So, for the next 6 days, a 4 IV's of antibiotics every day, drops in my eyes every hour (even at night) and pills with every meal. I was pretty drugged up but it was working. My sight is still kinda bad in my left eye but I am not going to lose it.
So I am going to directly to houston to see an opthamologist who will tell me whether I can participate in O-Week and, more or less importantly depending on your view, whether I will ever regain my full vision in the eye. If I don't, I can't drive which will change my life quite a bit.
Moral to this story is "Don't wear contact lenses. Ever. Period. They are evil." There is no other moral.
More of a PS than a moral, perscription drugs in spain are CHEAP (like 3 bucks instead of 80) and most of them you don't need a prescription, you just wouldn't know what to ask for without a doctor telling you, so you just say the doctor told me to get this and they give it to you. I like this system.
