It is not always the case where the kid gets to have his parent's abilities. Look at Claire and her biological parents: Nathan flies, Meredith creates fire. Some didn't even have abilities, like Simone and Mohinder. So it is not certain that Nathan is related to West :) Its been a big debate ever since Volume 2 premiered because of the repetition of powers. Other fans are thinking, maybe the writers have ran out of powers to use? haha. Whatever it is, I'm sure there's a reason behind it. I'm still excited, thankfully :)

Back to West, I don't feel good about him after ep 2. There's something wrong I know. And then the painting of HRG showed up in ep 3 and its clear that Claire is kissing someone. Maybe its West, maybe not. And let me add to that, not all Isaac's paintings are accurate. Remember the Nathan painting in the oval office? We didn't know it wasn't really Nathan (but Sylar disguising as Nathan), not until we learned he stole Candice's illusion power. So HRG still has a chance :)

I'm also not sure if the whole Sylar killing Michelle/Candice is real. It could be an illusion as well.
