see, this is how i get surprised..
Thursday night, after spending the previous day running around Alabang and Las Pinas for a bridal shower i was holding for my friend, it was time for glorious recreation in CCP to watch the Technical Dress Rehearsal for "ZsaZsa Zaturnnah: Ze Musikal". Wildly funny and very loyal to the comic book, it was just the stress-buster i have been looking for for weeks.
earlier in the evening, my brother was practically begging me to go to Fluxxe with him that night. he went as far as making me promise to go there after the play. my brother hardly asks me for favors so i willingly said yes. after "ZsaZsa..", me and my friends had dinner in Dencio's where i overfed myself with sisig and baked mussels and then proceeded to hope for a peaceful digestion by having tea at a nearby cafe. at this point, it was already 1am and my brother hasn't replied to any of my texts asking if he was at MDC yet. i thought that meant i was going home early.
i thought wrong.
Kiko suddenly texted me out of nowhere, saying telling me to go to Fluxxe assuring me that i'll be "pleasantly surprised" if i do. while Kiko usually texts me invites to go there, he doesn't really text me that way and here is where i'm already raising my eyebrows. like, what is up with Fluxxe tonight and why are these people making sure that i go there? HMM. so i texted him that the surprise better be good because i'll be coming all the way from CCP. he said "oh it's good for YOU." so my friend Chad offered to take me there after we drive his boyfriend home in Taguig. upon arriving in a pleasantly-crowded and hyped-up MDC, i looked for Kiko and when i saw him, said, "here i am. where's the surprise?" he took my hand and led me across the dance floor by the bar to where.. MY BOYFRIEND WAS.
i couldn't say anything for the next ten seconds while they stood there laughing. turns out my brother knew about his arrival since last week and they were planning for me to go to MDC to "accidentally" run into him, not to mention give me a good shock. when i finally snapped out of it, all i could say was, "wait lang. i need a drink!" so i got a drink and after taking several sips from it, i put my arms around my boyfriend and he FINALLY got to tell me in person, "Happy anniversary. Surprise!"
surprise is an understatement :) he's here. HE IS HERE.
there we were, trying to catch up as best we could in the midst of the shiny happy people, when someone grabbed my arm and said "You must be Iza." i turned around and saw his brother, who i have been nervous about meeting. he continued on to say, "i've been hearing so much about you and seen a lot of your pictures. it's nice i finally get to meet you. let me just say this.. you're family now."
which, you know, practically made me drop my cocktail glass in surprise. the brother is not as scary as i thought. actually, he's been really sweet.
so there. that's how his 2 weeks+ vacation started. a lot has happened already since then and in the span of 2 short days, we have been thrown a major challenge yet again. and mind you, this not something that happens to just anyone.. i would go as far as saying that there's one in a million chance of it ever happening, but hey.. here's an addition to that statistic. sometimes i'm worried that he's going to get sick of the things he's gone through in this relationship, but then i'm also sure that i know him well enough to be sure that he's not bailing out anytime soon, not after all of this.
when i was younger, i fell in love with Sheryl Crow's "Strong Enough". i guess you can say that my boyfriend is worth dedicating that song to.
