Political reminder
The Republicans controlled the U.S. House of Representatives through 2006. They controlled the Senate from 2003 through 2006.
I specify this because many Republicans have taken to blaming the Democrats for the economic collapse, based largely on House hearings in 2003 and 2004. These Republicans are ignoring that their party was in charge, and the Democrats couldn't block a damn thing. You think they've been ineffective while in charge? Imagine what they were like when they had no power at all!
Even my boss, a normally smart woman, said McCain had good reasons for voting against the troop funding bills in '03, '04 and '05 that a VoteVets guy pointed to in the debate after-party. They had timetables on them, and he's opposed to timetables, she said. I had to remind her that no they didn't, no bill with timetables was considered until the Dems took over.
