30 h f

Friday night was 30 Hour Famine. We stopped eating at 12:30 on Friday. At 6, we registered at church and got name tags with random Thanksgiving food items written on them. I was part of the Sweet Potato group. That night, we got listened to a missionary from Sumatra talk. He was pretty cool. Kurt had me play bass which was weird because we hadn't rehearsed at all. And the guitar wasn't tuned. Ew. After the service thing, they gave us 4 rolls of duct tape (2 for girls, 2 for boys) and told us that outside was a pile of cardboard, and we had to make something to sleep in that night. So we made a little shanty thing, and we cut out a little door and made a cardboard welcome mat. We had a cardboard floor to insulate over the concrete. It wasn't until later that they told us sleeping outside was an option. We had a few hours of free time. We used it to play volleyball and shave kurts goatee off. Mike no longer has facial hair either. After we got bored watching people get their hair cut off, Kels and I watched Brandon, Chris, Jon, and Tim played Nuclear War, which is similar to Family Business, except millions of people die instead of individuals. That got boring after a time, and we got ready for bed. I put on a couple hoodies and some "warm" pants. I thought I would be plenty warm. Since some people decided not to sleep outside, we took some extra cardboard and made another wall to our shanty. Not like it mattered. We crawled into our sleeping bags and thought it wasn't too cold. We talked for an hour or so, and then we tried to go to sleep. But it got really really cold. I slept for 10 minutes maybe, but then I woke up freezing. I wore both hoods and a hat, and I pulled the strings really tight so all that was showing was my nose. Then I pulled my blanket over my face. But I was still really cold.
Sometime around 4 oclock, Kelsey and I were both awake, and we started talking. I can't remember what we said, but it was crazy. I fell asleep sometime after that for maybe an hour, and then Kelsey and I went inside to go to the bathroom. We went back outside for a little bit and started talking about birdbaths and the like. We got up finally at 6:30 to get dressed and stuff. It took us a while because we were so tired and unorganized. We had juice for breakfast, and then we split up into our food groups again. Each group went to a different neighborhood and went door to door to collect stuff for the food pantry. Total, we collected over 2000 items. Allie S and I went to Weston Hills or something. It was ridiculous. Some of the houses looked like castles or hotels. We went to one house, and a little kid answered. We asked if his parents had anything to give to the food pantry. While we were waiting, a dog ran out the door followed closely by another kid. After a short time, the same dog ran out the door again, followed by the kid. It was really bizarre. We finally got 2 cans of soup. We collected for 2 hours, and then we went to a park to clean up garbage, but it started raining and lightning(-ing?) so we left early and watched part of Napoleon Dynamite. Then we went to church. I sat next to Josh and Kels. For dinner, after 30 hours of not eating, we got chicken and potatoes and salad. It was alright. I liked the brownie the most. It was really tasty. When I was ready to leave, it was pouring rain, so Josh told me to pull up my car, and he brought all my stuff to it. It was really nice. When I got home, there was no power. It came on after about 15 minutes, so it wasn't too bad.
This morning, I had ISHF rehearsal at 7:30. It was really early. But it was fun too. We had to find a song to do for offering. So we did a mostly-instrumental We Fall Down. I ate a doughnut for breakfast. It was ridiculously amazing. Then we played for Jr. High and had that recorded. But the recording was no good. We recorded again during ISHF, and that was much better. Kurt's going to send it to me in an email. A missionary spoke this morning. We gave him 20 minutes to speak, and he took 10. We weren't really prepared for that. We played some extra instrumental stuff. After ISHF, I went to lunch with Mom and Dad. That was good. I like food a lot now. And now I'm tired. I think I might nap.

that was my myspace blog.
additional comments:
ryan devine is pastor now, and im really excited for that. he did an intro today in ishf to introduce himself, etc.
we took communion today, and kelsey had to buy all the stuff because shes dedicated like that.
we thought it would be funny if she bought sliced bread instead of a loaf, but she ended up not doing that because of reimbursment issues.
of course there was the usual cute boy drama this weekend accompanied by girls who always think the same guys are cute. which is incredibly annoying. im sure im annoying too though. but whatever. im older.
i was in a really bizarre almost surreal mood on 30hf, probably due to lack of food and sleep. whatever. it will pass.
and i have homework to do... so i should do that...
