On Balbo, looking north.
Some of the buildings on Michigan Avenue, including the Congress Hotel. Also, that red building (CNA Plaza) was used in the movie Stranger Than Fiction, if you've seen it. (And if you haven't, you should.)
Another shot looking north from Balbo. All the trees you can see are part of Grant Park.
Looking east on Balbo - where I was standing to take this is right next to the bus stop where I pick up the bus to go back home. From the viewpoint in this picture, if you were to turn left, you'd get the views from the previous pictures. To the right is more of Grant Park as it extends south of Balbo.
Looking toward the southern end of Grant Park - there's actually quite a bit more that what you can see in the picture here, but I used the digital zoom to try and get the statue that was way the hell far away, hehe.
Another shot, but this time, I got all of that blue high-rise in the background. That high-rise and the other buildings you can somewhat see in the background there are all part of the residential development that's going up in the South Loop area. I'm not kidding when I say that, in the South Loop, the number of residential high-rises being built is growing so fast that with every week, the view of that area looks different because of all the construction going on. New buildings popping up, and unfinished ones suddenly three stories taller than they were the last time you noticed. Haha, fun times. And you don't want to know how much it costs to rent or own any of those places. *flump*
A slightly different view, looking south on one of the pedestrian paths through Grant Park.
From where I was standing while taking the previous picture, this view was just off to my left.
Looking up the stairs.
Then I finally decided to get on the bus and go back to Hyde Park:
I decided to get off on the 47th Street stop today, since the weather was so nice. Whenever I get off on that stop, the way I walk back to my place, I turn the corner onto 48th Street, which is curved and has a bunch of these townhomes you can see here.
Standing at the corner of 48th and Dorchester; Ancona is where I went to pre-school, kindergartern and several years of summer school. It's a Montessori-based, independent school, and if it's at all possible, Ancona is where my future children will go to school from preprimary through 8th grade. There aren't words for how much love I have for this school.
Walking up Dorchester, you go past what used to be the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. It's been boarded up and gated off for years now, but I love how it looks. I tried making the passage up at the top more readable, but it's still pretty hard to see. It says, "The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. Revelations 11:15"
About a block or so further up Dorchester, you come upon Kenwood Park, which is the park of my childhood, as it's right near where I grew up. The townhouses you can see in the background are running along 50th Street.
Right near the corner of 50th and Dorchester, opposite of Kenwood Park is this building - the Church of St. Paul the Redeemer, an Episcopal church.
Standing in Kenwood Park, looking toward 50th Street (and Dorchester - you can see my building through the trees off on the left there). The baseball diamond there is the one where I learned to play tee-ball on when I was around 5 or 6. Hahaha, meeeeemorieeeesss...
Coming up on the 'entrance' to Kenwood Park; my building is the yellow one, second from the corner in the background there. Like I said, Kenwood Park is right near where I grew up. Not even 1/4 of a block away. :)
On Dorchester, looking at my car! The lovely FredEmerson, in all his incredibly generic-looking 4-door sedan glory. ;)
A full shot of my building; this time, you can see my parents' living room window up on the top floor there on the left side.
Despite how absolutely bipolar the weather has been lately (it hit nearly 70 today, and tomorrow through the weekend, it's not supposed to get above 40, har), there's some pretty little things starting to show themselves in the ground there just in front of the bushes for our building.
Looking up at one of the ginormous elm trees that we have in our front yard area.
This entry brought to you by your tour guide, Lis! G'night folks!
Edit for Lily:
As my expression clearly shows, taking pictures in the mirror is SERIOUS BUSINESS, y'all. ;D
Random photo of my new striped shirt that I love very much.
Okies, g'night for real now, hehe.
