le poisson, le poisson, how i love le poisson!

Believe it or not, the title of this entry is what my friend Gaby spent half of the evening/night singing over and over again at various points the time I was at her house that I mentioned a few entries back.  LOL  Gaby is an interesting girl.  :-D  Gotta love flashbacks to The Little Mermaid.

I am starting to realize that I'm cultivating a common theme with a fair amount of the prints of photography and other artwork that I own - France.  More specifically, Paris, but anything related to France suits my fancy when it comes down to it.

I have the print that I got at the Hyde Park Art Fair this past summer, of the Eiffel Tower during the winter.  I have the print of Notre Dame Cathedral that I got in Montreal last summer.  For Christmas this year, my aunt Joyce gave me a framed print of the River Seine and the City of Paris.  And for I don't even know how many years, I've had a print of Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party that I got from the Art Institute; it's been sitting on the top shelf of those shelves I have on my wall here.

Just the other day, I was looking at the website for the Art Institute about what internships they offer (I'll get into that later in the entry), and on the main page for the museum, the graphic they have uses Gustave Caillebotte's Paris Street; A Rainy Day, 1877, a painting I have loved, but hadn't seen or thought about in years.  I really want a print of it.

I also really want to go to the Art Institute now, so I think I'm going to call Gaby and Oriana and see about setting up an outing sometime soon.

But yes.  France-related artwork and photography.  I'm now searching around art.com, just for the hell of it.  Man, I can't wait until I have walls to decorate again.

After seeing Pat again this morning, I drove over to the Medici and treated myself to coffee and lunch, and did some reading while I was there, too.  It felt really nice.  I should make more of a habit of that.  I also want to go try out this new Third World Cafe that went in over on 53rd; it looks like it'd be interesting.

Gaby was over here on Saturday for dinner, and she and I got to have a good, long talk afterwards.  We were talking about the woes of having to go back to living with your parents after getting used to having your own space - she's been back at home now since she graduated, so while we were on the topic, there was a lot of, "Oh god, me too!"  Haha.

At some point, it came up that I've had this on/off insecurity about how I haven't graduated college yet, while almost everybody I knew from childhood has, and most of them from pretty prestigious schools, to boot.  I've gotten better about it, but it still pops up every now and then, even though I know it's stupid.  It was nice when Gaby and I talked about it, because she told me about several friends of hers who haven't finished their undergrad work yet, and explained each of their situations individually.  This is one of those things, I think, where even though I know I shouldn't feel insecure about it, sometimes I need a bit of a reminder, and that's just what those explanations were for me, so I really, really appreciated it.

The internship thing I mentioned earlier?  While searching around online to see what I could find there for job possibilities, I ended up finding out that the Field Museum offers a Public Relations internship for undergraduate students.  I can't tell you how much it excited me.  I'm itching to get back to school now, so that I can try for an internship like that - I need to check the other museums and such around here, because I'm sure they probably offer something similar, and I would LOVE to do an internship at any of them.  The Field Museum, the Museum of Science & Industry, the Adler Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, the Art Institute...GAH.  Seriously.  My head is just bursting when I think about it.  :-D

I think that's all for now.  Am going to call Oriana, and then will be getting my fix of CSI and possibly Without A Trace (if it looks like an interesting episode).  I hope you're all well.  Much love to you all.  :)
