Good Night, and Good Luck: So
I just found out about this movie, but I am now practically foaming at
the mouth to see it. And lucky me, it actually comes out here in
MN (or at least down in Minneapolis) this coming week. It's
about CBS newsanchor Edward R. Murrow and follows essentially how he
went head-to-head with Senator Joseph McCarthy, the lovely man who was
all batshit crazy about ridding the world of communism. George
Clooney directed this, and is also playing the producer of Murrow's
show, Fred Friendly. Murrow is being played by David Strathairn,
who is brilliant. The cast also includes Jeff Daniels, Frank
Langella and Robert Downey Jr.
Website for the movie here GUH. This looks like its going to be brilliant. I am loving
that it's black and white. I saw something on TV about this and
they were interviewing George Clooney about the movie, and when it was
brought up that the movie was shot in black and white, he was saying
that it only made sense to him to do so, because when he was growing
up, that's what he saw. His only memories of Murrow or McCarthy
are in black and white. I think it was a wonderful idea - I think
it'll help capture the mood very well.
But yes. Must see this movie.
In other news, school is school. Lots of studying. Lots of
reading. But it's all good. I'm enjoying it. :)
I was telling Lisa the other night, I've found in the past few years
that I've started eating things I always used to avoid like the
plague. My tastes have been expanding - slowly, but still.
I used to abhor egg yolks with hard-boiled eggs, and lately, I love
them. About three years ago, I believe, I found out that
guacamole was, in fact, NOT disgusting after trying some of it at
Gaby's house when her mom made it one evening. More
recently, I found out that, if made well, I actually like refried
beans, too. At Oriana's graduation party, I discovered that
eggplant is alright. This past summer, the day that I spent
downtown with Oriana and Julia when we ate at Big Bowl...I loved the
Coconut Curry Chicken, when I can almost guarantee you that, in the
past, I wouldn't have ever thought of trying something like that.
And the kicker? After years and years of sneering whenever my
parents would order supreme pizzas...I have had the BIGGEST craving for
one for the last week or so. Specifically for the red and green
peppers. ?!?!
I know, mom. Are there pigs flying outside of your windows, too? Haha.
Speaking of my mom! *big grin* My momsy decided that she's
going to start making entries at her LJ. Aww! As it stands,
I know she's making her entries friends only, however, because she's
not quite comfortable with the idea of her entries being COMPLETELY
public. Lizzy and Kit, you should add my mom to your f-lists,
because I was telling her to add you two, because I had a feeling you'd
both enjoy being able to read her entries. Anybody else who'd be
interested, let me know, so I can tell my mom to add you. She's
still learning the ropes here in LJ-Land. :)
Lizzy tagged me a while back to do that list of 10 things that bring you a moment of joy, so I will do that now. :)
1. Having a day where I know that I can sleep in as late as I want.
2. When Nutmeg cuddles with me and presses her head/face into my
arm or my side and just keeps it pressed there, purring all the while.
3. Drinking my Tazo Passion hibiscus tea. No really. Stuff is THAT delicious, in my opinion.
4. Finding one of those songs that just resonates through
you. Shivers up and down the spine, 'ohmygod this is beautiful'
kind of songs. Mmm.
5. Having a good conversation with someone, especially a
friend. Both the good serious ones and the good funny-as-hell
ones.
6. Eating one of my favorite meals.
7. Finding a book that just sucks me straight in.
8. Long, hot showers at night. So relaxing.
9. Swimming. I don't get to do it very often, but GUH, how
I love it. I love the feeling of being submersed in water - its
so theraputic.
10. Making a friend or family member smile and/or laugh. I love being able to do that.
