middle of the night stuff...
been editing and posting some pictures from last wednesday on my myspace account tonight.
had a damn cold all day, trying to drink tea and rest and eat vit C and stuff. I don't dig feeling so run down and achy. Good part being that I had some time to read my new pirate book. Learned some new stuff... like what "shiver me timbers" really means, and that the most successful pirate ever was a woman. Her name was Cheng I Sao & she commanded 2,000 ships in the early 1800's. The drawing of her is really intense... kinda made me buy the book actually, other than that it looked cool and was in the bargain bin at barnes & noble, and of course having a general curiosity about pirates. I like learning. I think I'm going to make up my own pirate flag... they all had different flags, and I like the older red ones... maybe a skull, an hourglass, a bone or two :)
I would not have wanted to be a pirate during the "golden age of piracy" (1690-1730), or pretty much any other time... I am not the bug eating type, and it says in this book that the pirates mostly ate in the dark rather than see all the black headed maggots and other things that were crawling in and out of their food... one part says they knocked the bread on the table to get the maggots out and if the maggots were all pallid and thin, the bread wasn't good anymore... healthy maggots, less stale bread... Yeah, not my thing, for real.
The romantic view of pirates is fun and there's some very interesting and cool things about them, but for the most part, they were some fucked up mean sons of bitches doing anything for whatever government paid them, or for no other reason than to be cruel, or wealthy. Plus, I can't stand all the bad shit they did to women. (not that any group of men without law has ever been better) I prefer reasons with cruelty, and decent treatment for women. Wouldn't mind finding a treasure though :)
We'll be in Amsterdam soon though, and that is just the best thing ever. Got a colorful little studio apartment with a playstation II !!!! ... that is the best cuz late at night after everything else we'll be sitting there with 5 kinds of hash and 10 kinds of nug, playing games till we pass out, and I can't even think of too many things that are more fun than that.
