i'm not in the least
tempted to test
these waters yet
i'm so tempted to
allow these waves
to pull me under.

oh, the shock --
did you not expect that
the ocean current wouldn't
pull you out to sea?

oh how tragic it is --
to be so brave yet so naiive.

these shallow wet graves
we've dug in the beaches
beneath our feet are the
only things that harbor us;
even as shallow and fragile
as they are, when the water
rushes to greet us at our feet,

we'll still be tempted to
let the waves pull us in.
