Anti-Execution-ist vs Me.
I was walking in DC over the weekend with my girlfriend and a couple that is equal friends of ours to go see the Natural History Museum. In Ode to the fact that they will be closing the Dinosaur exhibit very soon we felt necessary to see it before they closed it. Yes... They need to update the exhibit badly but that's not the point.
So we are walking across the Plaza, and a woman is standing there with a petition. Her point was valid in the sense that it costs more money to put someone on Death Row then it is does to keep them in jail for life. I totally agree with that statement. But when she started booting off about how morally wrong it was I had to stop.
I was not rude, but I let her say her peace. Again, some valid points, but most rather opinionated. An Eye for an Eye is not the way, Costs more money, not morally ethical, and she of course wanted me to sign a petition for it. I told her I would not sign, and her response was 'oh I guess your a pro-executionist then?"
This, summed up, is pretty much what I told her.
"Your wrong. I don't believe in Execution. I think it is barbaric and overall a really bad idea."
She smiled and replied by saying that I should sign the petition if I share the same view. I reminded her she didn't by saying...
"I think the forms of execution they have is a total and absolute waste. Which reflects on the very person on death row." She blinked, a little confused, turning to skepticism. I iterated.
"The point is, the person on death row is a waste. They are a waste of life, a waste of time, effort, and money, they should not be useless in death. They are guilty, and therefore they should be put to death as the state seems fit they should be. But they should not have a choice in how they die, for every method given to them is a waste of the very material they are." I went to say, "The fact is, they could be so much more useful in death then ever in life, but current forms of Execution destroys all or most working parts. Rendering there bodies unsalvageable to save other lives. In death they should be harvested of all useful organs, bone marrow, skin, and any other useful material there bodies can be forged from. They should be put to sleep humanely so they feel nothing, and there useless remains, if any, should be put into a centrifuged so that they will be atomized into useful minerals and metals for physical product or other material."
Her reply was "ewww." And she walked away but I rather liked my idea...
