ear convict

i had my hearing test on friday where it was discovered that my hearing is worse than it was before the surgery. what??? no, that's what i was expecting, because i can't HEAR.
so now it's a waiting game. there is no way to tell if the new ear drum has taken until the tube falls out. the tube will fall out in about 3 months. the tube is holding the ear drum up to prevent it from becoming stiff and covered in scar tissue. but who knows if it's working anyway? so, i wait 3 months, and do it all over again. the testing. possibly another surgery. meanwhile, i'll adapt to my hearing loss. i'm going to try to get confident with my singing the way i hear it and move along. i just have to pray for no more infections.
the real story about my appointment friday was the convict. friday was super busy at st. luke's pavillion - the doc was 40 minutes behind and the waiting room was packed. i finally got out of there and walked into the waiting room to leave. there were about 4 or 5 little kids playing with blocks on the floor, with 2 moms chatting next to them. the door opens and in walks 2 police officers flanking a guy in a bright orange jumpsuit, shackled by cuffs on his feet and hands. the moms take one look and grab their kids. the convict and his officers went up to the desk. i left, thinking, did i just see that? he must have a baaaad ear infection to bring him from lock up! then i wondered if he would have to sit and wait for an hour with the rest of the folk, talking about the fishing opener.
