Media Center Update, 10/5

Oct 05, 2007 18:09

Meant to update this a bit more often, but once a week may be all I have time for. I have made some progress on getting this thing set up. Not as much as I would like to of course, but hey, things come up.

Files missing pertinent information:
Missing cover art - 6,153
Missing genre - 9,150
Missing year - 10,074

...So there is still a lot of work to be done. I'm trying to get the cover arts done first and add years and genres from time to time if they are easily obtainable... but to be honest, that's probably going to be a work in progress for a long time to come. I've also ripped 25 of my DVDs to date (which isn't a whole lot, but consider it takes about 90 minutes for each one, I'd say it isn't bad. Anytime I leave my place, go to sleep, etc. I try to start one. Hopefully I can get all ~150 done by the end of the month. After that... well... anyone need a 400 disk dvd changer? :)

These pictures are just a few from the media center. I downsized the pictures but it fills my 40" LCD TV at 1920x1080 resolution. In these pictures I played a Counting Crows song after selecting the genre, artist and album. I checked the weather, the news, and then added a few Alanis Morissette songs to a playlist. I also took a picture of the movie screen. Just pick a movie and it will play directly from my hard drive. No skips, and virtually no quality loss since the movies were encoded with the (relatively) new H264 format which allows me to get DVD quality rips at about 1-1.5 gigs a movie (maybe 2 for the really long ones). This will soon be expanded to handle TV viewing, digital recording (think TiVo), and plenty, plenty more.
