So my friend Aaron got married. The first of my elementry school friends to do so, and now he's up in Canada (eh) enjoying his new married life. Congrats to him and his wonderful wife. Here are some stats about this wedding (for me):
* Miles Driven: 1520
* Bug bites: 25
* States crossed through: 10
* Boat rides: 2
* Sunburns: 1
* Blessed unions witnessed: 1
Aaron decided to get married on a island off the coast of Maine called Frenchboro. It's location was given by many as the "ass end of the United States," but I personally like how our host (the bride's father, Bob Roxby) put it: "Well, this isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from here."
Oh the stories we have though. So Elizabeth and I left late thursday night and drove to Philly to Sarah's appartment. We got there pretty late (around 12) talked a bit, slept and got up at like 6:15 on Friday to drive to Maine. We wanted to arrive at the frenchboro ferry before 5 so we could, you know, take it to Frenchboro.
Here's the first fun story. Around 4:45, we're like 20 minutes from the ferry. I'm driving. One of my female passengers needs to go to the bathroom, the other is feeling car sick. We've also taken a wrong turn and are going around a loop to try to make this ferry on time. They will not wait. I'm doing 60 in a 25 around these sharp turns trying to find the ferry. Around 5 we're about to give up (well, more I'm about to give up) but we do eventually find the ferry, which has departed.
Aaron, fiance, and fiance's father are at the dock, however, waiting for the photographer, who has also missed the ferry. Basically, instead of riding the ferry, we end up riding in Bob's boat, this small little thing that goes pretty fast. It's fun, but I gotta tell you I was scared out of my wits. I'm a pansy like that. But it was crazy fun.
That night is lobster dinner. Yes, you read that right. Lobster dinner. Lobster's that were caught THAT DAY. Freakin awesome.
Really, the rest of the wedding went off without a hitch. Elizabeth and I impressed people with our dancing skills, we got pretty drunk friday night, not so much the night of the wedding. We got eaten alive by black flies and other bugs, but generally... totally worth it.
Check out these pictures of the island!
Yey crappy phone camera pictures!
The ride back was also interesting. We stopped for crazy good ice cream, and didn't really get on the road until 3 / 4. Yeah... that meant that we didn't hit Sarah's appartment until like 2, and I didn't hit my appartment until 5:30 am. Elizabeth and I are also convinced we brought a bug with us in the car that was enjoying the feast he was having. I'm not sure, but it is a very real possibility, since I don't think all of these bug bites existed when I left the island.
Anyway, great time had by all, but no one else better expect me to go to an island in Maine for another wedding any time soon.
