JESUS CHRIST THE FEDS ARE AFTER US.

Jul 12, 2011 08:10

So I have two screenshots  for you fine folks today. Technically three, I suppose, because the flag was a monster.

I'd like to give a little disclaimer before posting the second screenshot. Actually, I'd like to give two. First: go ahead and grab some Preparation H, because it's so full of butthurt that you may start feeling sympathy pains. Second: if you know whom these whispers are from (and it is a frequently posted character, yes), don't mention it in here. I do want to keep to my word and target only bad characters, not their players.

I felt sharing the conversation was still necessary, though, because it's something dissenters of this community need to see and understand.

So with that all said, have a terrible flag!

HOO BOY. So my friend whispers me the other night with just the words, "/mrp show Miralath". What I was greeted with was the immediate use of the word 'orbs', followed by a second whisper from my friend: "You can have this one." I read a little further down. Other than the orbs, it seemed like a pretty typical flag- and the suddenly! Alchemical construct, wait, what?

I think, for once, I actually -do- want to read the bio.

Fuck me, I lied, I could have gone my whole life without reading that. It's like a checklist on what not to do.

An openly practicing and fel-tainted warlock in the Stormwind Guard.

Demon-hunter-but-not-a-demon-hunter.

Mood Status tats.

More pure than the average warlock. (Which I guess is like being smarter than the average bear?)

INTERIOR BLOB-BODY.

This flag is full of curiosities. How is she both shy and diplomatic? Who the hell allowed a demonic construct with a criminal record into the city guard? How can you see an alignment? Do alignments have color-coded auras? Does her skin look disgusting because she's both pale and has green blood? THINGS I MUST KNOW.

And for my second screenshot, well.

Have this.

We're all doing time as cyber-bullies! All of us! I received this whisper early the other morning, and almost fell out of my chair laughing. This isn't the entire conversation, but it began with an all-caps whisper- a quote by our own poster Metalsyko, whom this particular player apparently mistook me for.

I'm mostly posting this for the benefit of people sharing the above opinion, not for us.

Parody and criticism is in no way against the law. As stated above, there are thousands of websites (as well as every other kind of media you can imagine) solely dedicated to picking apart bad art, writing, acting, video games- everything. When your writing becomes public, it becomes opened up for criticism in the same way that official published media does. This is re-distribution of free media, and if you're not comfortable with what other people may have to say about it, then perhaps you should think twice before making it publicly available. Look at the thousands of websites dedicated to making fun of -just for an example- Twilight. What we do here is absolutely no different, and is a legally valid form of expression.

When does legality become involved?

If the harassment becomes personal. If you, as a real-life person and not your character, are being targeted. Someone quoting you and making fun of it is not harassment any more than Mystery Science Theater is. If someone starts whispering you and continues to do so after being asked to stop, report them. If someone gets ahold of and posts your personal information online, report them. But the community itself is not liable for what single members do outside of it, and nothing illegal happens in here under the moderators' eyes.

So, sorry if you don't like what we do, but the federal law would be on our side.

(And honestly, I'd like to see the Feds' reactions to this player's MRP anyway.)

funny story, flagrsp, butthurt, wall of text, orbs, a wizard did it, kewl tats, terminally screwball, lolwhut, wyrmrest accord, dramallama, demon, controversial statement
