Project Runway: Azeroth Edition

Jul 05, 2011 22:43

So, normally, when I see a bad flag in-game, I generally either laugh about it to myself, sigh and walk away, or pretend I never saw it in the first place.

This one, though, struck a chord. Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I have to admit, I haven't come across the crown jewel in this suck.

Meet Vesta, Azeroth's next premiere half-elf fashion designer. )

flagrsp, night elf, butthurt, pretty princess, half-elf, babies, wyrmrest accord, druid

God i'm convinced people make these terrible night elf hybrids just to upset me. YOUR CHARACTER ISN'T JUST LESS THAN 100% LORE ACCURATE, IT'S 0% LORE ACCURATE. Aside from the fact that it's fucking impossible for you to be an adult half nelf/half belf (baby/child ones might be feasable, but not likely) due to belves/high elves being across the damn ocean and they likely would have been killed on sight if they ever dared come back across and get anywhere near night elf territory, you would have been an OUTCAST due to being half of a race the night elves exiled for being derps with their magic. You wouldn't HAVE the traditional night elf tattoos, you wouldn't have been trained as a druid, you'd be even more of an outcast if you were caught speaking Thalassian near ANY alliance race, let alone the night elves, and the likelyhood of you getting rich enough to afford all that fancy shit you talk about is so low it almost doesn't exist. Protip: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOESN'T FIT INTO THE GAME WORLD YOU'RE PLAYING IN, DON'T PLAY THAT CHARACTER IN ( ... )

I thought it was written Kal'dorei or Kaldorei. I've seen it both ways on various WoW sites.

I bleeve without the apostrophe is officially official, although older sources kept throwing it in there. I don't blame them so much, Blizz likes to put apostrophes everywhere.

The apostrophe only started being used by RPers when Blizz introduced the Blood Elves. Back in Vanilla ... everyone had it right! Now they're just being annoying.

Quel'dorei > Sin'dorei, but no Kal'dorei. bah!

also I've heard the actual ingame VAs pronounce it both sin dorAY and sin dorEYE. with the former sung for the Musically Inclined Sylvanas bit.

Regional/class-based elven accents?

[btdubs, I love your icons. They make me giggle]

I would actually agree with you as far as accents go, since I have heard them pronounced both ways myself. It's just like real life, we all have our own specific ways of pronouncing things differently from one region to another. So, I would see the same thing holding true in a fictional universe.

Though, I'm a little uppity with it comes to placing an apostrophe in "Kaldorei". Simply because when the Night Elves were written in, it didn't exist. If one is playing a Night Elf, and they want to be "politically correct" or whatever you want to call it - no apostrophe! But Blizz and their stealth apostrophes can be very sudden and surprising. -suits up and pulls out umbrella-

(thanks! I offer my services as an iconeer and/or shoopaturge as well.)

Fanon? YAYFANON.

And I know, we all have our peeves, it's just not one of mine anymore lolz. I understand it can grate, in buildup with other minor things if nothing else. Politically correct is...eh. It's about accuracy for me.

somewhere there's an essay on making "alien" names and apostrophes in im'prop'r places is addressed. I should find that.

No apostrophe. People who put an apostrophe in Kaldorei are stupid.

^This. As a vanilla Kaldorei player, it pisses me off to see derps who're too lazy to look it up, spell it with an '. Peeve with a capital P.

I admit, I accidently end up putting an apostrophe in it all the time. I blame it on the fact that I'm horde and everything Blood elven has an apostrophe.

Lol. But see, at least you CATCH it. These derps do it on purpose. -.-

Even though it's a stupid thing to make a person go mad, people who change their MRP race from "Night elf" to "Kal'dorei" drive me up a goddamn wall. If you roleplay your character's actual race (with the exception of worgen who do not want others to know they're cursed), there is no goddamn reason for you to change your race tag! I swear, it must be a shiny red button that begs stupid people to push it.

I change it to (THE CORRECT SPELLING) Kaldorei on my Priest and one of my Druids, simply because they believe "Night Elf" was a name given to them by Humans, and it's IC for them. The other half a million I have, have "Night Elf". But ffs, if you're going to change it, spell it right -.-.

I don't have to much a problem if it's spelled right. That said, it's just a race tag. She can call herself Kaldorei IC all she wants.
