Poking around the forums as I tend to do during maitenance led me to one of those typical "I have RP ideas and I say I want concrit but what I really want are people to fawn allover my ideas and not give me anything really constructive" threads (Link for the curious.). What it really stirred in me was a yearning for some draenei RP.
I love draenei. They're probably my favorite Alliance race ever. I'm pissed they got the short stick in their own expansion and have slipped ever lower off the radar, awkwardly shoehorned into lore and plot arcs when they were remembered at all. I'm not so peeved that they didn't get any new class treatment int Cataclysm, as a draenei rogues, warlocks, and druids sound more absurd the more I think about it. Anyway. I've been craving some serious draenei RP. Aside from a priest I only dust off once in a great while because she's somehow become a magnet for freaks whispering her, my only other character is Alomaar, my shaman-turned-DK. However, I'm thinking of retconning/erasing his DK blah-dee-blooh and rerolling him as a shaman again.
Why? A'cause goddammit, I've got a hangup about wanting to play a Broken. I love their lore. I love the way they look. Every time I see Akama on the Outland loading screen I go :D. I love Nobundo. I fangirl Erunak Stonespeaker like a nitwit. (I'm also pissed that the whole Broken and severed connection to the Light was left twisting in the wind.) Problem is, well, duh. The Broken model isn't available for players at character creation. It could easily be said that one day, somewhere down the line, all draenei shaman will devolve into tentacle-topknotted dudes that somehow lose their hooves and horns and a few fingers.
So I ask you, WCS, while the servers are down and I can't mull this over while once again redoing my UI: playing a Broken. Mildly sue-tastic bot ehhhhn it's alright if played decently like playing an Alliance Highborne? Or horribly eye-rolling U FAIS JIRAKSUS, EREDURR LURD OF DA BURNIN LEEJUN in the middle of Stormwind and ha-ha-you-can't-attack-me sue-tastic?
