So yea, remember when Real IDs were supposed to be something you use with RL and close online friends?

Not anymore.

TLDR: Real ID is going to be used on the forums. Old posts will remain unchanged, but when cataclysm rolls around all new forum posts will be using your real name.

This is a horrid idea. One of my close friends has had several death threats from people in WoW. Blizzard has done nothing regarding it, as their usual methods seem to be, and this will allow the people who have levied the threats to actually find my friend and harm them. I for one do not wish to see that occur to anyone.

Yeah, I guarantee Sisters of Elune's o-boards will finally be devoid of anything RP-related after this. It was on life support after the CM went -Godwin's Law here- on RP threads and roleplayers while letting threads by BLOOD AND THUNDER and other RP trolls stay, this'll probably kill it.

As a teacher who has many students that play WoW, I SERIOUSLY want to keep my privacy when in game and in forums. I deserve to be able to keep my online and offline lives separate.

I also feel bad for parents who keep accounts for their kids. Kids do all kinds of crap in game and on forums. Do parents really want THEIR name attached to these actions?

I had no problem with the opt-in, which I have done for select friends. No opt in? No way.
