Kurt reached the station a few minutes before their planned meeting time, dressed for a casual Saturday's shopping (and yet still, somehow, looking as though he'd just stepped off a high fashion catwalk.) He saw Wes almost at once, and he hurried across the concourse to meet his friend. Waving when he caught Wes' eye, he slowed to a stop in front of the other young man.
"Hey," he greeted, suddenly feeling a little self-conscious. Taking Wes shopping had seemed a great idea at the time, and he does always love shopping, but he was just beginning to realise how little he knew of the other man. He called him friend, but really... he was more Blaine's friend, Sierra's boyfriend. Kurt hadn't spent long enough at Dalton to really get to know Wes.
Wes smiled, glad to meet Kurt. The one good thing about him was that he was always punctual. Giving Kurt a wave, Wes suddenly felt a little self-conscious as well. Did they hug? Should he shake Kurt's hand? Or should he do nothing? His head tilted to the side and he bit his lip. He had wanted to spend time with Kurt. It as his suggestion. Why did he feel so nervous?
"I did. The train was on time and everything. Who would have thought?" Wes looked around, taking in his surroundings before turning back to Kurt. The station was always a great place for people watching. Today, though, he didn't have the time. He had plans with Kurt. There was an agenda. Yes, he had planned the day out. He was like that.
He sighed, looking Kurt up and down. He doubted he could ever pull off the type of look that Kurt wore. And still, he had no problem putting himself in Kurt's hands. "Shall we go? I don't know much about shopping. I put myself in your hands."
"You've come to the right person," Kurt told Wes as they began to walk, happy to be confident in his abilities when it came to fashion. ,
"I won't let you leave until you're looking the perfectly dashing gentleman that you are. Not, you know, that I don't think you're gentlemanly already." Kurt was at pains not to offend his companion; they didn't know each other well enough for him to tease.
"There's nobody else I would rather go to." He smiled wider as they stepped out of the station. He loved coming into the city. Being with Kurt was just an added bonus. "And we can get some lunch or something. I want to get a really nice suit. I'm thinking I'll wear it when I propose. If... If I propose."
Wes knew that they didn't know each other that well, but he didn't have any qualms about teasing Kurt. He wanted to get to know his friend better. "I may be gentlemanly, but I can still use a lesson or two from the best."
"If you propose..." Kurt echoed with a nod, falling into step at Wes' side. He still felt bad for the part he'd played in pressurising the man into feeling as though he should be proposing within the next 30 seconds.
"It can wait," he tried to make up for his earlier mistakes as they walked, feet practically on autopilot towards the best shops in New York City. (Wes had been educated at Dalton, he could afford whatever, right? Right.) "Sierra won't go anywhere. She is Smitten with a capital S."
The only problem he had with it was that he had a plan. There was a way he wanted to do things. Now, with the teasing, things had been moved up much sooner. He had wanted to finish school first. After all, they had their whole life together, didn't they? And she was so focused on Julliard, she wouldn't want to do anything else. Would she? He wasn't so sure anymore.
"No, you and Blaine are right. If it's right, why wait. Right?" He sighed, reaching up to run a hand through his hair. He wasn't even paying attention to where they were going, not really. "I love her so much, Kurt. I want to do right by her. I want to be there for her. Julliard is going to be tough and I know how she is when she gets upset over things. I just don't want her to be alone. If we get married, maybe that will help."
"You don't have to be married to be there for each other," Kurt pointed out, trying his best to be tactful and diplomatic.
"I love Blaine. I want to do right by him and be there for him, too. And yes, we're ready to get married. But... right now? We're not even engaged. And that doesn't mean I feel any less like he's looking out for me."
"I thought you were engaged." He was very confused. "You said something about rings. Didn't you?" He shook his head, trying hard not to get confused.
"I love Sierra. I love her more than I ever thought I could love anyone. I just... I want her to be happy about it. What if I propose and she says no? Not like no but like not right now?" He bit his lip, looking over at Kurt and smiling shyly. "I just want to make the right choice. This suit will be the first step."
"I have a promise ring?" Kurt flashed his hand at Wes, showing off the ring that he currently wore on his ring finger. He'd move it over, when the day came when he slid an engagement ring onto that same finger.
"And Blaine and I have talked and talked about the future, and I know we will get engaged. Blaine's bought the ring. He told me where he'd hidden it too, which was stupid. I told him to move it. I mean, come on, I'm not a saint. If there's a Tiffany's ring out there with my name on it, I'm not going to not peek." Realising he'd drifted from the point, Kurt shook his head and get back on topic.
"We'd be engaged already, but my dad's very vocal about that. He thinks we should both be out of high school. So Blaine says he'll propose when he graduates. That's all I know for sure. But that's us. We're not you. You have to do things your own way. And a suit is a very good start."
Wes turned and looked at Kurt's hand. It was a beautiful ring. Maybe he could do something like that for right now? Discuss it with Sierra and make a promise without actually proposing. Truth be told, his parents weren't that far off from Blaine's. While they liked Sierra a lot, they did hint to him to take things slow and not rush things. Wes did not purchase an engagement ring yet, but he had looked a lot
( ... )
"I think it's a very good idea, personally," Kurt grinned as he admired his own, before putting his hand back in his pocket. "It's like a.... commitment without a commitment." Though, now he thought about it, that didn't sound like a good advert at all. He shrugged - he knew what he meant.
"Is there any point at all in my asking if you have any favorite designers?" He started to steer the conversation back towards suits.
"I get it. A commitment without angering parents," he said with a smile. His head tilted to the side and he looked up at Kurt. "I think it's great. You and Blaine are perfect. I will be honored to be able to call you guys family .Even if you already are."
Wes at least had the grace to look ashamed. "I like Lauren. Hugo Boss. Marc Jacobs." He bit his lip. "I only those knows because I googled."
Kurt allowed Marc Jacobs with a nod, though he made it clear from his facial expression that the other two weren't names he was going to be looking for today.
"We'll call you a blank canvas. Much easier that way."
Wes frowned. "I'm sorry?" He could see from his face that he had said the wrong names. Shrugging his shoulder, he tilted his head to the side and he walked with Kurt, allowing himself to be led.
"I am sure that whatever you pick, Kurt, it will be great." He laughed lightly. "Paint me?"

"Did you get here okay?"
