"Look at my new jacket!" He held out his arms and twirled around in the parking lot. "it was only $12.99 at Gabriel Brothers!"
His grin was dazzling and I realized I really wasn't looking at my nephew at all. I laughed.
"Sammy, your mother would be so proud of you" I picked at an invisible fleck of lint on his sleeve "She spent more money on cheap stuff than anyone I have ever known. She was a real bargain hunter."
"Yeah, she was, wasn't she?" A flash of blue eyes and he & my son hopped into his car and headed out to the movies. "Be careful out there, boys" I reminded them. "There are a lot of freaks around." And they are missing their queen.
I miss her, too, even after all this time.
