Loss

I had to have one of my cats put to sleep today.

Almost three weeks ago, we came home to find our cat Fluffy not feeling well.  After a couple days with no improvement, I took her to the vet.  At that time, the Vet couldn't figure out what was wrong with her.  No fever, no apparent injury.  So we decided to give her a little while to get to feeling better.

within a day or two I realized that her back leg(hips) were in pain.  Maybe she fell and sprained something, I thought.  Give her a little time to heal.

Meanwhile, she didn't get any better.  Darrin and I took her upstairs every day to the litterbox and tried to coax her to eat.  She ate a fair amount of tuna and pounce treats over the past couple weeks.  Whenever we would pick her up and move her or she would have to walk, she would cry and shudder in  pain.  Last night, we found her laying in the living room in her own poop.  This morning, I picked her up and it was obvious that she is in pain.  It took a long long time to get her into a comfortable position.

Darrin and I had to sit down and have a difficult talk.  There was only one glimmer of hope:  her ears felt hot.  We thought that she might possibly have developed a fever.  Again, today, we took her to the vet.

Dr Davis checked her out.    No fever.   When Dr set her on the floor to watch her walk, Fluffy staggered and almost fell a couple times.  She spent much of the time we were there wailing in pain.

Final Diagnosis:  very rapidly progressing neurological disorder of unknown origin.  Her symptoms are consistent with a growing lesion on her spinal column, probably cancer.

She died in my arms, with a little help, around 1:30 pm.
