Soooooooo I watched Mei-chan no Shitsuji last night.
Actually in two parts last night and the day before.
God, this show, I'm still like oh my god why do you even exist ^^;;;
It's like
ruderal_species said -- this production is like an anime musical, just a bunch of caricatures / manga stereotypes running around on a stage.
Without any kind of moral message at the end to make it a worthwhile story.
What the drama was able to convey better than this production was Mei's strong character -- a pretty typical naive, "sees the best in everyone" kind of character, but she came across as the kind of girl who stands up for herself. Mei in this show was annoying a lot, and rather bland :\
The only thing that this show did better than the drama was not pounding in the mantra YOU CANNOT BE IN LOVE WITH YOUR BUTLER while simultaneously showing that every girl was, in fact, in love with her butler in some form. That bothered me so much in the drama, but they maybe mentioned it once in the show.
But they weren't really able to show that Mei was a person you should care about. When it got to the end (spoiler?!) while she was berating Lucia, it wasn't really like "I forgive you your faults, but you should try to be a better person". It was more like... "Look at me taunt you because everything Rihito did for you was a lie."
:\
AND THEN, it ends with "you can have your cake and eat it too" >______<
Seriously. Stories like this and Twilight basically teach young girls that they should dream of a handsome, mysterious older man to appear in their lives who is obsessed with them and follows them around everywhere. Ugh T_______T;;;
Aaaaall that being said.
The best parts were Koro-chan, Remi-chan and Shuu-kuuuuunnnn :D
(Remi-chan wore O-Hana / Alice-chan's dress though :\ *pouts*)
Also asdfjkl Hinami Fuu, was that even her under that nose-bandaid and that hat *____* ♥ And Koto-chan, THE CUTEST (go 95ths~ *waves flags*)
Disappointed by MiyaRuri though. I thought she would be totally adorbs like Eddie again (in New York Rhapsody, I loved her more than I can even say), but instead she was just like Anime Boy Stereotype #5 :\
My favorite, favorite part was when Beni cried during her speech ♥ ♥ ♥ She turned back into a sweet Takarasienne instead of a creepy stalkery butler ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
*loved speech so much, watching it again*
88th pawaaaa~ X3
(P.S. The other best part was the shadow dance. I will give props, that was genuinely amazing.)
