A bit about Shangri-La, and pre-shinko excitement
I think I've said numerous times that "this is the last thing I'm going to say about Sumika, I swear to god, and then I'm going to just drop it..." And then somehow I keep coming back with more to say. ^^;;
Sumika always annoys me less on DVD? I'm not sure why. Actually I seriously think they turned the treble down when they edited Sumika's wailing on the Casablanca DVD, hence it's easier to bear...
The reason I'm bringing this up is because I'm slowly, cautiously digesting the Shangri-La DVD.
My thoughts on Sumika and the show in general aside, mostly what's jumping out at me in the first 20 minutes is how much I've warmed up to Our Beloved Son Ai-ai. It's like, there's Kai-chan dancing -- she's undoubtedly the one I was watching in the theater -- and yet now my eyes keep moving to Ai-ai behind her. ^^;;;
After admitting to myself that I was falling hard and fast for "Josiah", I figured I had better watch Ai-ai do other things as well -- aka opera-glass her in Funky Sunshine. Which I have, a bit. And especially in the otokoyaku dance I'm like "damn, this girl has got all the skills... and she is so not my type." ^_^;;; I thought to myself "sorry, Ai-ai, you are actually good at things and I'm sure you'll be going places, but your classmate Monchi got me a year and a half earlier making ridiculous faces in the staircase dance." XDDD;;; THAT'S my type.
I might be changing my mind, though?
After all, SHINKO IN 16.5 HOURS OH MY GOD. And Our Beloved Son is the NIBANTE, Napoleon!
Alice-chan said she's watched the shinko rehearsals and was SERIOUSLY like a proud and totally biased mother being all "my kid is the best" omg the way she said it was completely adorable you have no idea. She has apparently become Ai-ai's mom for real XDDDDDDD
Other things I am looking forward to in shinko:
Preeeeeeeeetty much everyone? Seriously I look down the cast list and the way so many of the shinko girls fit the honyaku stylistically is just TOO perfect.
But if I have to pick my absolute favorites, of course I'm going to say TEN-CHAN playing TamaTama's role asdfjkl. More than King Ferdinand I'm betting everything on her singing in the opera bit as well, and THAT WILL BE AMAZING with J-ko and whoever are the two lucky girls harmonizing with them :D
And MONCHI in Chii-chan's role ahahaha when she's the one holding Chii-chan back with the end of her gun in the honkouen... I'm a little uncertain about that hairstyle on Monchi, but you never know, she may go for something different to make the role her own ^^
What with everyone being so perfect on paper, what really intrigues me are the 93rds / 94ths / 95ths getting big parts for the first time. Such as...
Fuuma in Mii-chan's role. Actually I already know I like Fuuma because she was an amazing Baby Tomochin in Shangri-La, plus there's that lift with Kuracchi in the Plasma Dance, etc. Yeah, looking forward to this :D
Rio-chan as shinko Dai-chan! My main impressions of Rio-chan so far are "that Ecchan backup dancer with the slightly stand-out part" (from La Belle Aurore in Casablanca) and "one of the waiters in Je Chante". So I have no idea what she'll be like in an actual speaking part!
Right behind her in the British Navy, Kanako as shinko Kai-chan? Mostly what I know about Kanako is that she wore a really eye-catching T-shirt in Phoenix 2 (although I can't remember what it was now x____x)... And that she hangs out in cafes with Fuuma and steals sidelong glances at foreign girls ;)
Back to 94ths, Mitsuki as Barras. Aka shinko BonBon. Does... not... compute, lolol. But should be awesome in a completely different way than the Bon-squared herself!
And speaking of French Directory dudes, Mirei Jun as shinko Ten-chan! Pretty much a completely unknown entity! Yuichii, I have no idea if you'll even come close to the awesome that is "if looks could kill" Ten-chan, but I'm willing to watch and see ;)
I said that Monchi is shinko Chii-chan, but then shinko Monchi is Ren-chan. HOMG Big and Tall Ren-chan holding back little Monchi... XDDDD I'm dying already imagining it XDDDDDD
Lastly, Nanao Maki playing our dear Josiah himself in the shinko. REALLY intrigued and REALLY hope she does it well.
I'm kind of wary and sad about the fact that I might not be able to like Re-re, because I love her but strongly dislike the character of Emma... We'll see, I guess. *sigh*
...I'm not sure why I spent an hour writing that all BEFORE the shinko when I could've just waited until AFTER. ^^;; I guess I'm just enjoying the fact that I can stay up a little later, because shinko day means only one show for the upperclassmen, so 10:30AM irimachi...
But really, I so should've been asleep before now >.>;;; *scurries off*
