My combi. They are the best. No one will ever, ever, ever come close to TakaHana.
I think one the problems with looking at the past is everyone seems older, more mature. When I entered the fandom, the people who were babies then still seem like babies now -- even if now they've graduated from shinkos or become nibantes or what have you.

Parts of NSG reminded me about something Alice-chan said at the Nagoya shimbokukai, though. About how Soragumi has a strong sense of pride in their peasant / townspeople sequences. "If it's 市民役, we won't lose to anyone!" she said. Of course at the time the peasants were in Chunichi Berubara, but there's also been NSG, the flashback sequence in Lightning, maybe Pierre, and Berubara 2001 before that... For war in general there was also Reimei... And for non-fighting peasants Valencia, Hououden, Carmen... I guess you could create a pretty broad definition of townspeople if you tried hard enough. ^__^;;
Oh, and last night I may have dreamt about Hanagumi doing a rockette with tap-dancing robots. DON'T ASK ME TO EXPLAIN THESE THINGS, OKAY. @___@;;
