ATTENTION: MONONOKE FANS LIVING UNDER A ROCK

Jul 09, 2009 18:29

Dead tired right now, about to flop on the bed at the late late hour of 6:30 pm - but to jump on some old news:

I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS

How long has it been now since I've really wanted to watch a forthcoming anime? I would be more hyped up if I wasn't so braindead.

So. Kuuchuu Buranko - long story short, IT'S THE MONONOKE TEAM AGAIN OMG HOMG ZOMG SPASMDIECHEER
Maybe I'll go look up more about the original novels and so on when I don't not have the ability to perform simple mathematical functions, but anyway - it's 11 episodes, starting October in the Noitamina slot (of course) and will be a omnibus of 3 different stories by Hideo Okuda: his famous In the Pool made into a film in 2005, the titular Kuuchuu Buranko (Aerial Swing or whatever), and Chouchou Senkyo (Town Mayor Election). Collectively referred to as the Psychiatrist Irabu series, they have sold over 2.23 million copies.

Basically it's about this seemingly nutty psychiatrist (or is he really a psychologist - brain fuzzed) who does all sorts of ridiculous things to a very eclectic mix of patients ranging from an insomniac clown to a salaryman with a perpetual erection, but he knows what he's doing and somehow they are cured. (Check out the In The Pool link; and go google up some more)

I think it'll be particularly interesting, bizarreness aside, because of the way Japanese consider the whole idea of counseling and psychiatry. Whether I like it or not, I somehow end up gravitating towards their general stance on such things as opposed to a more stereotypically Western (or American? I dunno) one. Maybe it's a (drumroll) "Asian thing". Ugh, I said it.

Anyway. One thing I won't hold my breath for is the inclusion of a refreshing spectrum of female characters, but what the hell, I'll watch almost anything Nakamura produces.
And if all fails, it should look fantastic. Not that visuals have been encouraging me to do very much in recent times, but well...

I'm also prolly going to check out Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 tomorrow or the day after or whenever I remember. Here's hoping Bones has their act together.
Maybe, just maybe, 10 years down the road we're going to think despite all their faults Fuji TV really did the best damn thing by having Noitamina. I dunno.

stupid:fangirling, anime, stupid, anime:bakeneko/mononoke
