the internet from the outside

GUYS, IT'S SO AMAZING. My cousin is discovering the internet. She keeps trying to outsmart me by asking if I've heard of THE BADGER SONG or the freaking LLAMA SONG and whenever I laugh and shake my head and go 'oh dude, I memorised the words to that when I was fourteen' she gets SO CONFUSED THAT I'VE KNOWN THESE THINGS ALREADY.

Welcome to the tubes, kid. These memes have been forming for longer than you've been alive.

(Although oh god I guess the Llama Song is really never going to die. There are always going to be new preteens deciding it is the funniest thing they have ever seen. (I hope that ten years from now my cousin will be groaning at ten-year-olds who think, idk... Kanye West's interruption is freshest and most hilarious thing ever, or something.))

(The weird/interesting thing is that she's quoting stuff without actually knowing what it means/where it comes from, sometimes. e.g. she thought 'come to the dark side, we have cookies' was something a friend of hers had made up and she's mentioned the 'internets' without having a clue about the political/satirical Bushism story behind it. It makes you wonder where the internet's going to be five/ten years from now, idiomatically speaking.)

rl: family, my life got flipped turned upside-down, amazing things are happening, *chinhands*, rl: babysitting shenanigans
