One of Lee's castmates from Pong! The Musical had hosted a gathering after the show last night and Tony and Lee didn't make it back to Lee's place until nearly four a.m. And it was quite a while before they went to sleep that morning.
Brunch, then, was closer to lunch, or maybe brinner, but it was eggs and toast and the works in a little café less than an hour after they'd dragged themselves out of bed, so brunch was what they called it.
After they'd eaten the meal and were lingering over coffee, the conversation turned to Tony's inevitable return to school.
"So," Lee said, playing with his coffee stirrer. "Do you and your friend Jack still have a 'friends with benefits' thing going?"
Tony raised his eyebrows at the question but nodded. "Yeah, sometimes," he said. "Is that... okay with you?"
Lee's coffee was certainly getting well-stirred. "What if it wasn't?" he asked, finally.
Tony felt a thrill of hope? excitement? lust? Something, anyway. "If I were to stop seeing other people, then I'd want the same from you," he said, keeping his tone casual. Thinking, in particular, of how Lee's co-star, Alicia ("Player 2") had been looking at Lee last night.
Lee nodded. "That's fair." He found Tony's hand under the table and squeezed it lightly. "We're not half a world apart any more. I don't want to be with anyone but you. Does that work for you?"
Jumping up and cheering would be extremely immature, Tony decided, so he settled for a grin. "Yeah," he said simply. "It works for me."
