Hikage has never been acknowledge by anyone, both within school life and even out of it, like restaurants it would take her two hours before she would get served, but she would always have that hope that one day someone would find her. This even included her childhood when she would play Hide and Seek with the neighbourhood kids, she would always hide, but would never be found and would end up going home crying. It started when she first discovered blogging, she started off with no reply's to her pictures in her blogs, but eventually one day someone replied. This person was known as 'Black Rabbit.'
It wasn't long after that, that another person would start to reply and they were known as 'MegaPIG.' They were the two who would always then start to reply to her blogs whenever she posted. When she started 8th Grade, to her this meant the chance to be able to make at least 2/3 friends since everything is new and everyone doesn't know one another yet, but unfortunately while helping a cat to cross the street, she had to stop a car from hitting it. The car acknowledged that she was standing there, but the motorcyclist did not and hit her dead on.
Because of this she had to spend two months away from school, not allowed to go back until she was fully healed. When the two months were over, everyone had already formed groups of friends and once again she had been left out and basically not acknowledged as being there.
From where the chapter begins, Hikage is shown to have gone to her desk without some girls noticing and when they do, they call her by the wrong name. After that the two most popular guys, Teru and Hinata arrive rather late, but before the teacher gets there, so the girls in the class start voting for who they think is the most popular. Hikage tries to use this to speak, since they hadn't gotten her vote, but before she could they already said that the results were a draw.
After school the class had to go about cleaning and therefore had to go into groups of 3 or 4. Hikage knew that usually meant she would usually end up alone and the teacher would have to help her, so this time she tried and managed to speak up and ended up in a group of 3 other girls. While cleaning the Gym Storage room she was able to have at least a somewhat normal conversation.... even though they still didn't get her name right. This made her really happy that she might have finally made some friends. But this was short lived when the girls had left after being told that they could go home. So they left and locked the door, forgetting Sumino was still in there, thinking she had already gone. They even thought that maybe she wanted to be alone.
Sumino tried to open the door, but with no success, while at the same time was yelling that what the girls were saying was not what she wanted, but they didn't come back. She spent a short time in there thinking about when she was a kid and when she would play hide and seek and would never be found and would go home crying and thus crying herself when the door opens revealing one of the most popular boys in her class; Hinata.
This will be where I'm picking her up from... because I'm an odd person like that.
[Personality]
She is just a very plain girl from first sight. Nothing about her or her personality stands out so much, so people tend to ignore her, or in most cases completely forget she's even there, even though she might be right next to them or behind them, they just don't notice her. She's very quiet and doesn't exactly speak out even when they do ignore her, but this can be because she is very shy.
When it comes to bullying, Hikage isn't one to know how to deal with it very well after all she's never actually had to deal with it before, but she is a very sensitive girl and if someone starts to bully her, she tends to not stick up for herself and instead just backs away from the situation before it gets any worse.
If she can't do something she has a habit of getting sad over it, but she always manages to blog her posts and because of her friends there giving her advice and telling her what she should be doing, she would then at least try to do something about it. Because of her not being seen, she is shown to not have a lot of confidence about things she can do and can't, but when her sun finds her when she was once locked in a room, she slowly throughout the manga starts to change this lack of confidence and gains it as it goes, as shown by a sunflower she has been tending to.
When people do get to know her they would find that she is someone who is very kind and caring, as she has shown to help people or animals, like when she tried to stop a car from hitting a cat, the car stopped, but the motorbike didn't as he hadn't of noticed she was standing there. She also cares for the plants, as for the vast majority of the manga shows her tending to a sunflower and watching and taking pictures as it grows. When it got broken by a bully, who was jealous of her and her relationship she had with Hinata, she was upset over it, but managed to in the end get it fixed.
The one thing this girl has and that's determination to at least try and do something, even if it doesn't work, she'll eventually get over that with the help of her blog posts that she makes. All Hikage wants is for once to be noticed and she does try her hardest to, by speaking or by helping others in a couple of cases, but no matter what she doesn't give up straight away and that's what makes her who she is.
