With PEERIE I left an O, and with TWAT I left NRTY?, and with GHARRI I left RT.
I'll probably annotate my side in the next day or so, and we can repost* it (and repost BETTER not be Collins) with some additional commentary!
YUK was YUKKY. I probably shouldn't do things like that, as we discussed during the original quackling. I guess I didn't feel like my chances were that good unless I did something somewhat risky, but I probably overreacted and should have just played TURK. I think I remember why I didn't play GHARRI up higher - it allowed you to fork the board with an almost unblockable S-hook with a 3 letter word ending in G (which allows you to dump the Z or J if you drew it, which along with the S setup basically kills me). But as Kenji said, the other GHARRI sets up a Z spot which you probably won't have after your 2-tile fish... so maybe it's better? Also the AORTAE turn was ridiculous... definitely one of the toughest decisions of the tourney. Definitely looking for feedback on that play.
Anyway, it was a great game! Looking forward to our next.
In the AORTAE position I would almost surely do OVA. It seems there are many overlaps that would go there if you played AORTAE. OVA probably sounds ridiculous and I'm probably wrong, but I would definitely play it, and it seems like the play that Quackle would prefer too (which is probably why I am gravitating to it so much, not knowing how to play like anything else). You have decent shot at a -IC bingo, you could draw the -ING, -AE, etc. The annoying thing here is the big S spots that you're less likely to get with a 2-tile draw, but you're also putting pressure on him to score and try to defend against a bingo himself. AORTAE also lets Noah do a 1-in-the-bag endgame.
I don't presume to think I'm right, it's just my preferred play =)
Of course with what his rack was OVA is not likely to win. You have to hope he kept some slightly clunky tiles after FRIZ or drew some. I don't know what his range is for FRIZ or how to figure it out.
