So, yeah, I found the Longhorn's victory to be bitter sweet. I can't help but think of my dad. He raised me to bleed burnt orange. Despite having received his PhD from Texas A&M, he remained loyal to his first love in UT. We would go to games growing up, but it wasn't until I was in high school that I truly appreciated the experience. It was something I really enjoyed with my parents and that in and of itself was rare. We'd drive to Austin on a brilliant Fall day and catch a bite at one our local favorites before heading off to the game. The energy at those games was impressive, even to the 16 year old me. I haven't experienced that in fifteen years.
I got a bit of a reminder of that energy last night at a local drinkery with some friends. I could only stay for the first half of the game, but got a good enough dose of it to be worthwhile. Waking up this morning to the news of their victory was fantastic. I had to be at work at 5, so there I am rousing from my ddep sleep at 4 am and the first thing out of my mouth to Peter was "did they win"? Amazingly, he had stayed up long enough to see the end and was able to relay the final plays for my benefit.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of their win was seen at work this morning. Something about such happenings that gets people excited. Most of my customers were of a fantastic mood. Something that I was able to not only incorporate in my own attitude, but also build upon. I like good energy, it warms my spirits.
