Someday, my company's misplaced priorities will cease to amaze me. My project is a week behind schedule, still fixing bugs despite a code freeze date of March 7. Today, four new bugs were opened up (including one assigned to me for investigation), each of which needs to be fixed ASAP. Except, of course, that we were negligent in filing certain tax documents and so our Technical Requirements Document has to be completed by Thursday otherwise the company will lose $700,000 in capitalization. To this end, every engineer is being asked to put bugs on hold to immediately document the technical requirements of whatever features they worked on during last year and have this work completed by COB.
Meanwhile, there is an obligatory "social" (with refreshments!) for all reporting my director at 4-6pm.
