At present count, I have accumulated (despite the frequent use of Deep Woods Off) fifteen mosquito bites over the course of two days. Their distribution is as follows: one on my right forefinger, four on my left lower leg, and ten on my right leg. Yes, ten on the same leg. A whopping four of those are located in the warm crevice of the back of my knee. Yesterday afternoon, while pottying the puppy, I discovered a dead opossum stagnating in a pool of standing water by our garden hose, which I am going to speculate may have had something to do with the superabundance of insect life in my parents' front yard.
Keeping in mind today's
report of yet more mosquitoes in Alexandria testing positive for West Nile Virus, I wonder what my Vegas odds are? Figure only one percent of those infected with the virus develop severe illness and die of encephalitis without any warning. I guess I am rolling those dice whether I want to or not.
Although, I feel obligated to point out that I generally avoid the Del Ray area anyway, not because of plague-threat but simply on principle. Gentrification my ass; you still live in the ghetto...
Addendum
After this morning's shower, I discovered two more on my left leg and one more on my right, bringing the grand total to eighteen.
