Irreconcilable differences

"I'm putting it in writing that when--if--I die, she will go to live with you."

"Huh," I said. "That'll go over well with Dad."

"I don't care," Mom replied. "I am putting it in writing and I'm making sure you have a copy."

I guess she is being uncharacteristically optimistic though, because she felt no need to do so before her flight to California.
