It's not clear whether management knows or cares that we have access to their grades and comments via the online end-of-the-year review tool. I am fairly certain the goal is that employees not read such things until our actual one-on-one wherein any hurt feelings are assuaged by a 2.3% raise. Regardless, I am a little miffed at
the Smiler's comments regarding my Q4 performance, which, not surprisingly, read like the compliments of a man who dislikes me.
"In the back half of 2004, [X.] made some major contributions to the [S.] project. "
I was fucking essential to this product and he characterizes my role as a contributor. He rattles off the laundry list of tasks I did and comes closest to a compliment when explaining why I was given the shit-job of accessibility engineer: "one of the reasons he was given this task was management's confidence in his ability to arrive at a good solution." In the end, my lack of "unwavering passion for [the Company]" and apparent inability "to lead others towards a strong sense of commitment and enthusiasm" resulted in me receiving a "partially met expectations" with regards to those two "personal objectives."
M. keeps pointing out that
R. trumps the Smiler and R. loves me, but whatever. It doesn't lessen my desire to stab the manager whose personal integrity is suspect to the degree that I frequently go over his head and speak to his superior about his questionable decisions and practices.
The cruelest joke of these review processes is that feedback goes one direction - from the top down. Otherwise, my manager would be torn a new one.
