We had our first "off book" script reading tonight. It was delightful. You see, we lost the vast majority of the women due to the demands of the Passover Seder and, in one case, the strip club. The greatest benefit of this was that the foul witch, our assistant director
J., was not in attendance. Instead, our director finally got around to directing.
I spent much time with
V., the director, and
D., the actor playing the part of Kevin. The latter fellow is great, fantastic really (certainly good enough to make me appear embarassingly flat by comparison). We read over our one key scene five times (almost off the book on all of them). I feel much more comfortable about the script, the movie, and my scenes in particular. It's amazing how much easier everything works when you are not being watched like a vulture by someone who takes everything too seriously.
I wish V. would just fire her already.
So, next Wednesday is the final rehearsal with full blocking. Then next Friday we will head off to a little cabin in the woods for the weekend-long movie shoot. My anxiety has subsided substantially. It should be quite fun (as, indeed, shooting a short film should).
It was a great evening.
