...no, it wasn't. [Jaina puts a hand to her temple, sighing and trying to figure out how best to put this.]

Varian had been scheduled to attend a diplomatic conference at Theramore where he would meet with Thrall in the interest of negotiating a permanent peace treaty between the Alliance and the Horde. Mid-journey, he was betrayed and captured by members of the Defias Brotherhood, a organized group of criminals mostly made from disenfranchised workers who felt the Stormwind nobility had treated them unfairly during the rebuilding of the capital. Though in reality, the Defias were being controlled by Onyxia, one of the children of Deathwing.

Varian's disappearance was covered up, and Highlord Fordragon served as the regent, watching over Varian's son Anduin in his place. Varian eventually escaped captivity, though he had lost his memories - or rather, they had been taken from him. He taken as a slave and named Lo'Gosh, and earned considerable fame fighting as a gladiator...

...eventually, he was able to reclaim his identity and his kingdom, and Onyxia and the Defias Brotherhood were destroyed.

I'm absolutely certain that the Horde had no involvement whatsoever with Varian's kidnapping, though Varian still... has his doubts.

[None of this would have happened if he had been King -- but we're not gonna actually say that.]

...Varian was a good man.

[Jaina sighs.]

He still is. In the end, I know that he's trying to do the right thing for his people. But he's... not the type to listen to reason, and he holds deep-running grudges.

[Doesn't that sound familiar -- oh wait.]

Perhaps one day, he'll reconsider. It would take time...but perhaps.

[Yeeeeep.]

I can only hope. There's far too much at stake for all who live in Azeroth to waste time and lives needlessly bickering with each other.

[We don't have anything to say to that -- for all he knows, he is the one putting everyone at risk. And that's not a pleasant thought.]

He'll correct his mistakes if he's the same man I always knew.

[...yeah, um. About that...]

I have no doubt that he will. I pray that it won't be too late.
