Jaina turns over in her bed, reaching over to the other side - and then frowns, opening her eyes as the person whom she had expected to be there isn't. She blinks blearily, sitting up - and frowning as she sees Cornelia, dressed in a nightgown, standing at the window, with her hand to the glass, looking outside. She can't quite place it, but she can tell the other woman feels nervous, apprehensive even.
Jaina slips her feet into her slippers and stands up, moving behind Cornelia and lightly touching her shoulder. "Cornelia? ...is something wrong?"
Her friend turns to her, a look of concern on her features, and quietly says, "I think there's a storm coming."
Stepping beside her to look out the window, Jaina scans the sky - the clouds are heavy, black, and ominous. There's a flash of lightning within the clouds - it is green - and Jaina feels her heart skip a beat. There's ... no way. She had to have been imagining it. A second flash of lightning and crack of thunder, and Jaina's blood turns cold, because she knows that lightning.
An instant later, a giant ball of flickering green flame streaks across the sky to land with a thunderous crash somewhere in the village of Espoir. Another falls from the sky, this time in Somni - it smacks into the side of a building, utterly gutting it, and the building teeters and begins to collapse. These two are followed by two more, then four more, and as the sky rains fire, Jaina takes a terrified step back from the window, one word dying on her lips: Legion.
In the next heartbeat, Jaina can see a meteor flying directly at her - she dives, tackling Cornelia to the ground as it smashes through their building, a moment of impossible heat before the damaged structure begins to shake... it isn't long before Jaina can feel it beginning to collapse around them.
"Slow Fall!" A second whispered incantation conjures a protective bubble of ice around the two women as debris plummets around their gently falling bodies - when they land, their building is rubble around them, though they're unharmed.
Perhaps not for long, though: something stirs in the crater left by the meteor's catastrophic descent, and then a giant hand made out of stone and fire grabs the rim... and the
rest of the creature follows. Jaina takes a quick look around - all around her, Somarium is streaked with plumes of smoke and fires and the roars of countless Infernals just like the one before her.
She steps toward it, spikes of ice shooting from the ground to instantly impale the monster, but all that appears to do is infuriate it more. Jaina knows that while she can handle one of the creatures, the others roaming the area and slaughtering her friends will eventually finish her off too.
The Burning Legion has come to Somarium, and in one final moment of clarity, all Jaina can think is that they've followed her here.
*mumbles* Oh... my head.
((OOC: Takes place after Jaina wakes up from a night of drinking found
here, so yes, she is qute hung over.
