brooks and i went to dublin on saturday morning and made very good time, like only 2hrs 20min, like record time. we were lated than i wanted but it didnt matter anyway. if we'd have been earlier we would have gone to an art museum, but im sure we'll be back so its no big deal. plus, the sun was actually out for a while and it wasnt too windy.
there were still a shitload of tourists so the main streets were particularly crowded during the day. we checked into our hotel and went out to roam and find some lunch. we ate at an italian place, it had cute tables outside, but all the outside tables at everything were full. so we were in the dining room which was pretty crowded and loud. service was shit, but the food was delicious. the portion was good too, price was typical. we went over to the river, saw the spire, walked down a few shopping streets, went over to temple bar and over to dublin castle, went by trinity college. so that was about the rounds for the city center. i would actually not mind going sometime quieter even in the cold and rain. sometimes its just nicer to get some space.
i had picked a place for dinner early in the day, but when we went back this place which was pretty unassuming turned out to be solid booked until 10, which was the standard for several places we walked into.. but it was so hit or miss bc we went into some that just had tables available but then we didnt want to eat there. definitely need guidance and reservations to get the really good stuff. whatever, there is like no bad food at restraunts here. so we went off the main drag and ate at a steakhouse, normal, not so authentically irish, still delicious. we bar'd it up for a while, but we're not two to independently mingle, so we called it a night around 12.
we stayed at a place called grafton house, it was pretty decent. the served a good breakfast and location was ideal. on sunday morning we went over to see christ church and st patricks, we also spent a while walking around st stephens green before too many people came out. we went to a mall nearby and walked up and down the main shopping street. we ate lunch at the cutest place ever, and i plan to go back there. my food was so delicious and it was moderately priced. cozy with live jazz music. omg adorable. then we went to the ballet to see swan lake. well the national concert hall was not the most impressive place ive ever seen. really like i dont know, i think the website kind of prepared me for something nicer. i liked the dancing though and thats what i was there for most i guess. however id never seen that ballet before and i was expecting there to be an obvious death at the end but then it just ended and like there was no indication that any of the things in the end of the story line had actually occurred. so i left kind of confused.
well we got screwed by the parking deck bc we went to a machine that only took cash, had to find an atm in the rain, only to find a machine that took cards tucked away in the interior of the garage. damn them. plus it was way too expensive for the convienence. never again.
looks like i have to go to training in dublin for the first week of december, so hope that will be fun, but i dont know... it should at least be decorated for christmas then and get me in the mood.
