What is it about the Internet that makes people think they're allowed to be rude and make personal attacks against others that have nothing to do with the topic at hand? When someone posts something on a site that has a comment feature, such as You Tube or LJ, should they not expect opinions that both agree and disagree with their own? And when someone is bold enough to disagree with all the misspelled and poorly punctuated raves about how wonderful the thing is and say, "No, actually, I don't like it," what makes people think it's okay to go off and call that person an immature "douche" who likes to find things to complain about? Why do people feel the need to resort to name-calling when faced with an opinion which does not agree with their own? And why must people who are not the originator of the work in question be the ones who most often attack the few who are brave enough to stand up for their opinions? Why does the golden rule "do unto others as you would have done unto you" no longer apply in this day and age when contact is conducted in the privacy of your own home with nothing to look at save a computer screen?
When I see abuse such as what I have endured today, I am not surprised by the level of teen violence in this day and age; in fact, I'm surprised that I never was one of those kids who brought a gun to school and killed of all their classmates right before killing themselves. Is it any wonder why I hate people? Give me something warm, fuzzy, and completely honest any day.
