Jul 29, 2008 09:41

Andrew was still in bed. He really hadn't left the bed for much in the past few days, not seeing the point. Upon waking this morning, he thought about taking a shower, because he was getting rather rank, but after pulling himself to the edge of the mattress and discovering it was cold outside his protective cocoon, he changed his mind ( Read more... )

Agnes took a deep breath and knocked determinedly on the door. Hopefully, Andrew'd be there.

Andrew had changed positions since getting a visit from Ned. Now he was on top of the covers, pants on, and eating a slice of delicious pie.

"It's open," he called out. He really should look into getting that shower.

Agnes poked her head into the room and immediately blushed. "I'm sorry... I wanted to pick up some of those books you were talking about, but... I can come back some other time."

"No, no, come in," Andrew said, smiling. "I've got pie!"

"So I see! It looks like good pie, too."

Agnes looked around the room, and resisted the urge to say something about its condition.

"I've been sick," Andrew lied, noticing her glances. He got up and grabbed a stack of books. "I sat these aside after we talked. There are some pretty good ones in here dealing with music and its magical qualities."

He sat them down on the edge of the bed, not wanting to risk getting close enough for Anges to catch whiff of his funk.

Agnes picked them up and flipped through one or two of them. "Thank you! I think these will be really helpful!" Then she looked at Andrew worriedly. "What kind of sick?" she asked. Other than the stinky kind? "I might be able to brew something up that will help."

Andrew frowned. "Can you cure the blues?" He flopped back down on the bed, grabbing the pie and stuffing a large bite in his mouth.

Agnes frowned. "Not really," she told him. "But... If you want to talk, maybe I can help?"

"I don't want to unload on you," he said. "I mean, you just came by to pick up some books, but it's like this: I'm bored. And lonely. And the new issue of Y-Men comes out today and I can't leave my room to go get it. And my ex apparently hooked up with someone else, and that's okay, but I didn't expect it to make me feel so... unimportant."

Agnes sighed. That's pathetic.

"Look... What if I go get your Y-Men thing for you, and you... shower, and then I'll hang out with you for a bit?" She shrugged. "I'm sorry about your ex. If she's found someone else, then I guess it just wasn't meant to be."

"Oh, um..." Andrew fidgeted uncomfortably. "I mean, if it wouldn't be an imposition, I would appreciate it. And I was just thinking that I should probably shower."

He scratched the back of his head. "Liir is my ex. Um, maybe you've met... him?"

"Well, you're going to have to tell me what it is and where to find it," she told him. "And give me the money for it. But I wouldn't mind, really."

She gave him a worried sort of smile. "I have a class with him. He seems... nice? I'm sorry you two broke up."

Andrew shrugged. "It wasn't working out." He walked over the table beside the bed and pulled a few dollars out of his wallet.

"You can find it at the bookstore. They have a pretty good selection. I'm sure whoever is working will be able to point it out to you."

Agnes smiled, nodded, and took the cash and her stack of books. "It's a book, then? All right. I'll be right back, and in the meantime, you go ahead and make yourself... less stinky."

"I'll, um, do that," Andrew said, embarrassed. "Oh, and Agnes? Thank you."
