Tree Hill, NC: Now and Years from Now

Dec 29, 2008 00:47

There are moments in our lives when we find ourselves at a crossroads. The choices we make in those moments can define the rest of our days. And, of course when faced with the unknown, most of us prefer to turn around and go back. But, once in a while, people push onto something better. Something found just beyond the pain of going it alone. And just beyond the bravery and courage it takes to let someone in, or to give someone a second chance. Something beyond the quiet persistence of a dream. Because, it's only when you’re tested that you truly discover who you are, and it's only when you're tested that you discover who you can be. The person you want to be does exist; somewhere on the other side of hard work and faith and belief; and beyond the heartache and fear of what lies ahead.

When Lucas arrived back in Tree Hill, he was faced with many obstacles. Some of them seemed insurmountable while others were simply...well, awkward.

After the shooting and Keith's death, Lucas never thought he'd find happiness, at least, not the kind of happiness he ended up with. Lucas had saved Peyton from the library, yes, but it was Brooke he had chosen to go searching for in the aftermath. She was the one who had held his hand at the funeral and who he'd told about his time in Fandom. They were Brucas, after all, Peyton had namesmushed them.

Given this was Brooke Davis we were talking about, she hadn't even minded talk of experimentation and offered to hook up with Lucas and Natan anytime he felt daring. That night is one time the step-brothers will never speak of again. No matter how much Brooke grinned when she saw them together.

Over the years, things got better for Lucas. His book was published, he graduated college, and he got to be close with his surprisingly precocious nephew, Jamie. (Who he swore was even better than the awesome kid who'd visited him in Fandom.)

Lucas also got the girl. And with very little drama. Mostly because he'd seen how the drama sucked the life out of people back in Fandom and chose to learn from it instead of continue that trend throughout his life. After college and careers had finally settled down, they'd moved back to Tree Hill together, to be with their families and to raise their own.

[Yes, Lucas is gone and I give you the unedited bad!fic way things went. What? My version is better. Suck it, canon.]
