From the Causeway to Charlotte, Saturday
He'd left on Saturday afternoon, post-detention and only slightly worse for the wear by way of exhaustion. Nathan had picked him up on the other side of the causeway in a slightly beaten black car. After an inspection and tune up, they got on the highway. As they drove along, conversation seemed to avoid their purpose.
"This car runs great, man," Nathan grinned, obviously proud. "Best part is, Dan had nothing to do with it. Of course, I will need to replace the tape deck."
Lucas chuckled, digging through his bag. "Oh God, definitely. As requested, I brought my trusty IPod and cassette adapter," Lucas said, and reached out to eject the current tape. Nothing happened when he pushed the button. "It's stuck!"
"Don't tell me you didn't check the stereo before we left," Nathan chided, not that Lucas could possibly have done anything even if he'd noticed the issue before they left the Causeway area.
"Dude, I was a little busy checking out the engine," Lucas reminded him, pressing play. A horrid, horrid song began to play.
"What is this?" Nathan asked, making a face at what seemed to pose as music.
"I have no idea, but I think we can safely blame proximity to Fandom." It played on repeat the whole way to Charlotte. Trying to ignore the music, Lucas turned to Nathan with a wicked grin, "Have you ever heard of Gremlins?"

After catching a live college game Saturday night, the brothers headed to their hotel and got settled for the night. Of course, with the HCM test on their minds neither was sleeping in the dark room.
Lucas sighed. Then he sighed again. "Sleeping?"
Nathan paused before offering up, "No."
"I keep thinking about Haley," Lucas told him. "She must be scared about all this."
"I haven't told her yet," Nathan admitted.
Lucas looked across at Nathan, obviously worried about this plan.
"Hey, 'til I get the test results and figure out what I’m gonna do, I wanna protect her," while this made sense to Lucas, he wasn't sure it was the best idea. "She’ll probably be pissed about that but I think it’s for the best. So tell me more about this 'other Brooke'?"
Lucas laughed, "Man, I never thought there could be too much Brooke Davis in this world until I went to that school."
