And it begins. As I have noted in the Permissions Meme, Wanko, despite all appearances, is not human. He is a Tenkaijin, and it occured to me after a few Memes from others, this might need a little bit of elaborating.
BASIC SETUP: However, certain memes have made me think about what a Tenkaijin is specifically. First of all, in the Ueki world, Heaven and Hell are not places for people to go to when they die. Instead, they are places for Tenkaijin and Jigokujin (Hellions, lit. Hell People) respectively to be born in and live in. The two worlds currently have a somewhat peaceful standoff, thanks to the efforts of previous leaders (God and... no clue, really). Also, Hell there is bright pink and has a Prison for Tenkaijin who break the rules.
DEFYING DEFINITION: Tenkaijin are basically the people who live in Heaven. Ten (Heaven) kai (world) jin (person}. In the artistic sense of the word, Tenkaijin would mean Angel. ...you all see the problem here. It just doesn't. Quite. Work. Sure, God is the boss up in Heaven, but seeing who our current God is... Well. For starters, the God there is chosen by the previous God, Tenkaijin don't have completely natural wings, and they don't make it a omgserious point to do good deeds. (Some do though! They're not all jerks!) So asides from certain abilities in the above link, they're almost human.
PINGING MATTERS: The basic thing here is that Wanko will ping you as not human. However, for those who specifically pick up on demons and angels, you might notice something about Wanko. And you might notice that he has been to Hell before, but a very, very different version of Hell. And apparently, Tenkaijin can't specifically sense other Tenkaijin, since it apparently surprised Wanko that Ueki was one. I'm going to take that to assume that Tenkaijin can't sense if something about your character is not human.
HEALTH: You may have already heard about (our previous) Ueki's and Robert's idea on fast-healing for Tenkaijin, and I was randomly going through episodes and found the exact quote to back things up. "[His] incredible stamina and recovery speed... those are the characteristics of Heavenly Beings [Tenkaijin]." (Kobayashi, Episode 13).
ETC: From examples that we have seen of the Tenkaijin, they are very diverse, ranging from Oriental, European, and American. The problem here is that a lot of those influences are in fact of the Human World, so how did that happen anyway? And can we actualy give them nationalities? For now, I'll say no. But I have no idea, and I never will.
And of course...
ABILITIES
One Star: Kurogane. A GIANT cannon appears and they use it to shoot a giant cannonball-type object. No, I don't know how Tenkaijin handle the weight or kickback, I assume it's just in their genetics as Tenkaijin.
Two Stars: Fuudou. Imagine a giant metal fist popping out of the ground to deflect an incoming attack. Even from above.
Three Stars: Ranma. Giant blade from the arm.
Four Stars: Masshu. ...Giant red block with yellow glowing eyes that opens it's mouth and chomps on the enemy with its huge teeth. Can enclose, or crush things. I'm still amazed that human opponents never died with this.
Five Stars: Pick. Large colorful rectangle shaped object from the person's arm. Rams right into the target.
Six Stars: Raikal. Very tricked out in-line skate type objects on the person's feet. Moves undeniably fast, but jumping with them is a no.
Seven Stars: Galiper. A box shoots up from the ground under the enemy and traps them. There is however, a .5 second chance to escape.
Eight Stars: Namihana. It's similar to Pick, except more wormlike, and thus flexible.
Nine Stars: Seikuu. A pair of wings really. It's an interesting point that they're not traditional wings, but more like jagged shards.
Ten Stars: Maoh/Maou. It's... a representation of a person's strength, more specifically something that drives them, and as such the effect of this attack can differ with the resolve of this drive.
Kurogane, Fuudou, Masshu, and Pick, along with Galiper, Seikuu, and Maoh/Maoh are capable of being broken by a stronger force as we've personally seen the series. I am not certain however, about Ranma and Raika, as well as Namihana.
Tenkaijin are also capable of many strange, and varied, powers that also come with limits that must be accomplished in order for the power to work. They work in cases of both tangible objects, and intangible objects.
[For example: Inumaru would currently be capable of:
The "Power to turn towels into steel" with the limit of holding one's breath while doing so
The "Power to turn the enemy into a glasses lover" with the limit of the enemy pulling off the Bricco Pose, or Goodie-Two Shoes Pose. Specifically, the enemy has to raise both wrists to their mouth, and lift back their right leg at the same time.]
