Fandom SnowFlake Challenge 2014
Day 1 | Day 2

2013

I.
Fandom Calendar One of my favorite day-to-day follows (and something I discovered during last year's ), Fandom Calendar has shout-outs about every challenge they've been informed about from every fandom everywhere. You'll find super big bangs and tiny drabbles, super huge fandoms and rare things, and it's all year long, letting you know when everything is happening.
II.
Fandom Snowflake Okay, so maybe it seems a little self-serving or brown-nosing to point to this comm/challenge, while I'm in the middle of the challenge for it, but being part of this challenge (even for just 11 days of it) in January 2013 effected my fandom-ness so so SO MUCH.
I found Fandom Calendar (which having found me half a dozen other things I signed up or of followed along with last year). I wrote a transfomative works statement on my all my fic/meta/etc profiles because of it -- and in the middle of the year someone podficed & wallpapered my rare-baby Kabuki fic (and it was the most brilliant surprise gift by a stranger, and I was walking around on cloud nine for days).
It got me to start thinking about and being more proactive about leaving comments and less about just leaving kudos on A03 (even if it was just a sentence, and especially if it was good enough to be bookmarked). This one is staying around for a good long time, and I'm endlessly excited to see what it might bring me this January.
III.
Fandom Appreciation China Shop's mid-year one-week Fandom Appreciation Challenge was a massive blast! I fell into it because of Fandom Calendar and the appearances of a familiar name on Fandom Calendar, and then I had a truly lovely blast all across the events and challenges therein, too! It was definitely another thing, like Fandom Snowflake that got me think about everyone all around me and all the amazing reach fandom has and how endlessly possible fandom-works are and can look like.
IV.
While We Tell of Yuletide Treasures: The Obscure Fandom Fiction Exchange Project
As I said yesterday, I knew I'd be reccing this for its own sake soon enough, and here it is the next day! 'Yuletide,' as it's been shortened since so long ago, I've never even called it the long name except in the first minute I'm introducing someone to, has been around 10-11 years this year, and is a rare fic's only Christmas challenge.
It's much more popular and widely attended now than it was in it's early burgeoning years, but the output for rare fic at the very end of the year because of it is explosive and amazing and so well loved by both the writers and (especially) the receivers. I cannot even find enough words to say how much I love this challenge, I love that it's still growing by leaps and bounds, I love the beta pool, I love the mods, I love the books/candy/drink swaps, I love everything about it.
