2013: Just keep swimming. Swimming, swimming, swimming. Even when you can't see anymore.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
2004...Slow down, you're doing fine
You can't be everything you want to be
Before your time
Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight
Tonight,...
Too bad but it's the life you lead
you're so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need
Though you can see when you're wrong, you know
You can't always see when you're right. you're right
You've got your passion, you've got your pride
but don't you know that only fools are satisfied?
Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true
When will you realize, Vienna waits for you?
Slow down, you crazy child
and take the phone off the hook and disappear for awhile
it's all right, you can afford to lose a day or two
When will you realize...Vienna waits for you?
2005....Love is a tangle wood tree in a bower of green
In a forest at dawn
Fair while the mockingbird sings, but she soon lifts her wings
And the music is gone
Young lovers in the tall grass with their hearts open wide
When the red summer poppies bloom
But love is a trackless domain and the rumor of rain
In the late afternoon
Love is an old root that creeps through the meadows of sleep
When the long shadows cast
Thin as a vagrant young vine, it encircles and twines
And it holds the heart fast
Catches dreamers in the wildwood with the stars in their eyes
And the moon in their tousled hair
But love is a light in the sky, and an unspoken lie
And a half-whispered prayer
2006....Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable,
And life's like an hourglass, glued to the table.
No one can find the rewind button, boys,
So cradle your head in your hands,
And breathe... just breathe,
Oh breathe, just breathe
There's a light at each end of this tunnel,
You shout 'cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
2007....Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
2008.....Fear is the brightest of signs
The shape of the boundary you leave behind
So sing all your questions to sleep
The answers are out there in the drowning deep
You've got a journey to make
There's your horizon to chase
2009.....I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear
the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
2010..... let it go,
let it roll right off your shoulder
don't you know
the hardest part is over
let it in,
let your clarity define you
in the end
we will only just remember how it feels
our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain
2011.....I’m scared today, more than I told you I was yesterday
Give me a moment to catch my breath
And hold me every second left
Proud of me, that’s the only way I want you to be
Look at me and love what you see
I won’t make it alone, I need something to hold
Kiss me on my shoulder, and tell me it’s not over
I promise to always come home to you
Remind me that I’m older to be brave, smart, sweet, and bolder
And don’t give up on what we’re trying to do
Don’t count the miles, count the “I love you"s
2012.....Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
2013:
You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love
Or you can start speaking up
Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do
When they settle ‘neath your skin
Kept on the inside and no sunlight
Sometimes a shadow wins
But I wonder what would happen if you
Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

End of The Year Writing Round-Up
Favorite(s) of the batch:I think this is definitely going to end up being
12 Days of Jersey and
12 Days of Jersey II. I don't even know if we made it through the first one entirely before we knew we'd be doing it again. We'd even talked about doing a Christmas in July set, with Christmas's in Hawaii but we haven't quite branched out to it. But there was something magically fun about having it behind me, and in front of me to fill the Christmas spaces
Best of the batch: I'm going to have to go with a toss up between
12 Days of Jersey/
12 Days of Jersey II and my Unrevealed Yuletide. I had so much fun stepping out of my shell into a brand new fandom and person for my Yuletide and it had been really awesome getting a mass wave of feedback that it was so great for the challenge laid out by my recipient.
Most under appreciated by the universe: This one is definitely
she took her love, for to gaze a while, but not any specifically bad reason. Just that Star is only really recognized by people in Milliways, as with how most Tarot stuff is, so it's really left alone aside from when Milliways people find it.
Most fun to write:Oh. Jeez. See this is hard, because so many of them are so fun.
12 Days of Jersey/
12 Days of Jersey II never stops being a laugh/squee/surprise riot, because my cowriter and I give each other the prompts, swap them in e-mails surprising each other and stocking up for the event, and then we get to interact with all the commenters.
i can do anything crazy, and know definitely has to be on this list. Anything that makes you giggle in waves while writing it, before you can even gift it out to the person definitely falls in the most fun.
Sexiest fic:You know I don't think I really have one of those entirely this year.
In The Dark of the Night,
These Dreams are Made of Things, and
i can do anything crazy, and know are all about beds, bodies and people who've frequently had sex, but they aren't really in a category of sexiest in my head.
Accccck. Nevermind. I lied it's totally
these places, we find ourselves. That one ranks up just a smudge above the other three in this category.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic:There really isn't one of these this year at all. I didn't write a lot this year, but I wrote a pretty sizable amount on things that were pretty normal for me, in all manner of topics but nothing too weird or dark or out there this year.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Maybe
they say I'll be okay, but I'm not going to ever get over you, but only because TGA fic continues to remind me that Marian is an independent, stubborn person who chooses both the wounds she keeps and what she lets heal her. That she doesn't have to let go of the past, or ever actually move on from what happened to her or the great expanse of what she's lost, even when she's move on to her present fully dedicated to it.
Because she -- and they -- surprise me, and it'll never be less than true. Their world really can handle one more paradox.
Hardest fic to write: Uh. None? Maybe my Yuletide, not because it was hard, it really wasn't, the thing glided together like the breeze and the summer dun, but because even though it pretty much wrote itself without a need for research, I spent an amazingly long time agonizing over every detail because it was my first fic in a favorite show of years, but that I'd never written in the fandom of, and it was someone's Christmas gift. So take all my normal neurosis about wanting my fic to be right and add that on it.
Biggest disappointment: Nothing, thankfully! I usually have something that falls flat and annoys me, but maybe the less writing this year means there wasn't something I tackled that I hadn't quite gotten my fingers around entirely. I'm actually really pleased with everything that ended up going out this year.
Biggest surprise: Echoing last year, this still has to be
12 Days of Jersey the first round, that ran through January 5th of the beginning of the year, because it was just an idea that hit me from left field. I never expected it to take off so fast, get so high hit wise, or have so many people commenting and loving it on A03 and Tumblr. This one this Christmas wasn't so surprising, but I never stopped being in awe of who, how many, omg squeezing adorable people last year.
Most telling fic: Definitely my Yuletide 2013. There’s so much circling the drain, dragging in and out going on in that fic, which has to do with both the past and the present, and the people enmeshed in both of those. I really can’t wait until that hits my actual works, too, as I’ve been really loving people seeing it through Yuletide itself.
What's next?Well, I have to finish out
12 Days of Jersey II which will take me, again, to January 5th finishing off the 12 Days of Christmas and then the sky is the limit, really, you know? I'm curious considering the H50 comm for writing 1 Million words for next year, because I played read-along girl for them this year and by the middle I really wished I had joined in, so I’m definitely looking to get involved with it next year.
~*~
Take the first sentence from the first entry of each month in 2013 and put it in a paragraph or two: For last year's words belong to last year's language, And next year's words await another voice. (J) The last few days weren't so much hard, as sort of hard and very strange, beautiful and, thus, heavy. (F) Today? A03 sent me a notice, I'd never seen before. (M) I want more AdagioTeas Easter Egg badges. (A) Every year I buy myself usually a nice gift at my birthday and Christmas. (M) Interestingly enough I do not think form or format will ever keep Sara and I from finding each other. (J)
Spielberg is made of trying so hard to make me cry like every other episode. (J) So I'm playing catch-up with the world this week. (A) Where and when and in what show, Lenkov, are you even talking about? (S) I can't even think straight, guys. (O) I've made it to Illinois, and I'm surrounded by tea cups, book readers and cheerful voices. (N) I keep meaning to get back and write a post and the world keeps hammering my to-do list. (D)
