Fathom Events Presents The Live Met Opera

Jun 23, 2013 12:10

I'm not doing perfect at getting back to writing entries the exact night of things happening, but maybe at least I am remembering now? And this one is only actually four days late, instead of weeks and months going by without forgetting? Small steps, I remind myself to be content with. But on to the happy news and reason I wanted to write!

Fathom Events sent out their missive for the summer, again, announcing The Met: Live in HD opera's they'd be bringing this year and I decide that unlike last year I would not miss them this year. My first one this past Wednesday was Carmen. And guys. Guys. It was gorgeous.

I was blown away by just how much of the music I knew (maybe 70%) of it. I was deeply in love with the two ballet performances that proceeded the two act break ups (first two acts in the first half, pre-intermission, the second two acts following that). From the musical itself? I was deeply in love with Carmen the way you're supposed to be. The mezzo-soprano in question had a gorgeous voice and a truly amazingly emotive face, which you need so much with her role. I'm waffly on what I thought of her solider-lover's actor. He was okay. A great singer, but I'm trouble if I was put off by his character or by him. His superior officer, the "jealous solider," was amazing though, too.

I loved the dancing and a little bit of Gypsy dabbling. I was amused at some of

I packed myself an illegal dinner in my purse, in my ziplock lunch box and got to enjoy good dinner -- roast beef slices, fat-free string cheese, baby carrots w/ hummus, and apple slices w/almond butter sided by about 20-40oz of water. So I wasn't hungry, didn't have to worry about "movie theatre food," and had an awesome, beautiful evening.

I am so excited about the ones across the next few weeks II Trovatore, Armida, and La Traviata. I'm, also, already considering catching the Munch: Munch 150 display Fathom event of the largest Munch gallery so far ever collect and the Springsteen & I fan experience, too.
