DAY 7: Count your fannish blessings.
Post about (at least) three fannish blessings, for example,
three reasons you love your fandom or fandom in general, three h
appy fannish memories, three people who've inspired your fannishness.
Challenge: Completed
I.
Livejournal Yeah, I know I have one foot in each of the LJ/DW worlds, and I've still not figured out how to manage two friends lists but? I would not be who I am, fannishly, if it was not for LJ coming into my world twelve years ago in January, I would not have found Fanfiction.Net, Milliways, Yuletide, Dreamwidth, A03, Twitter, Tumblr. In general, the realm of everything that effected anything. I cannot ever salute my hat without starting there. Making a journal was like the first step on a very long path, and I will always be grateful to it.
II.
Milliways Bar I don't know how not to make this a treatise. I would not be who I am without this place, this game, these people. The last six years of my life, it saw me through two massive relationships, two degrees, a year in another country. It introduced me to dozens on dozens of fandoms. I've gone on dozens of trips, met dozens of these people in person, all across the united states and the world.
They make up probably 3/4ths of my LJ/DW/Twitter friends even now. (The standing Milliways Twitter list
here at 104 strong. And I have no idea how many LJ/DW journals for the real characters as well as the pups. I can't even begin to tell you how many direct e-mail addresses and phone numbers for people I have. Events I've gone to for their lives, for the sheer fun of travel or fandom.)
They are some of the best friends I've ever made. They are some of the best, most passion (and cracktastic) writing I have ever done. They are the best community I ever became part of, which doesn't feel like a community because they've all been here so long it just feels like this massive extended family reaching out in every direction.
III. The Tumblr/Twitter Hawaii Five-0 Group
This entire community suddenly crawled out of the wood work a few weeks ago, when my ranting and talking turned into a post on meta for the show, because I got tired of seeing a line here or there I wanted to explain how I agreed or didn't on Doris or Cath or Danny or Steve, and how, omg, listen to me, I can back this up with twelve paragraphs about it, guys.
I mean it. People poured out, overwhelming me with wanting me to talk about things, and it's been crazy and amazing ever since. There've been people I talked to for two days before even realizing that they were people I've been fingerling the artwork of for years. Others who, run massive things, that had be staring with saucer eyes that they even wanted to talk to me. I've made accidental blunders and felt guilt for days about it, literally caused arguments and squee fests, found amazing people.
I'm still nervous and shy (about these people as I am the crazy the media brings down on the fandom) than most people tend to get from hearing me, but you know, so far they've been a good group of people, and when I have regrets and crazy fears/worries it's not something a specific one of them did/gave me.
IV.
Archive of Our Own Seriously where would I be without this place now. I love this place and I feel so safe in it, and I love being part of a massive Transformative Works network that supports fans for fans, by fans, with fans in mind at all time. I read 99.9% of my fic here in a year. I donated into the OTW for a membership this year on the grounds for my feelings about this place, and wanting to support it and other things like it being out there.
I post my everything that is fandom related here. I've done full fics. I've found a home and audience for my twitter fics. I've even started putting up my Meta's so that I never have to lose them and wonder where they went, and they've found a strong talk back audience amazingly. I recently got a Transformative Works statement up, and even got gifted podfic and story art.
I love, love, love, love, love this community.
V.
NewsBlur Yep, this is probably confusing to a few people but it's totally related, even thought it's just a kick-ass RSS feed reader. But it is a strong proponent of where I get to follow and find all my Fandom Related stuff in daily awesome doses. I have my A03 track of the whole certain fandom tracks delivered here, as well as Wedonesque, One Million words, the daily Hawaii Five-0 news letter, Fandom Calendar, Pottermore, Terry Moore, Big Damn Love Fest, 100 Word Stories and so much more.
It's the whole reason I'm on top of things when not relying on my friend's list to pimp me all the awesome Fandom Related Things. Plus, I just found out they have a truly amazing app for the iPhone, thats a breeze to use, check things, leave others. Probably my newest best Chrome/iPhone/Fandom-Related find.
I can never say this enough, with enough words or love: fandom is an endless blessing.
