A new refrain, with a heart always the same

Feb 04, 2013 15:36

Last month a friend of mine reached out and asked me to write an article for her nature-based blog for February. Something about bonds or love, and how you she not ask me. Love. This thing that is always on the tip of my tongue. And so I wrote her the long winding tale that has been sung by my heart, and my blood for this past year, about my Mother, and for my Mother.

My newest handprint pressed in clay and painted a bright color, except from the me who is nearly thirty, who uses poetry as my clay and history as my paint, to say the same things I have always been saying with each childhood craft. Thank you. I love you.

Even though it goes to the universe, and the many people who will read, this one belongs to her alone -- the way I will always be hers alone, too, no matter how old I get or how far I wander into the world or how many people or places capture and hold my heart, my dreams, my hands.
