Day 17 - Your favorite memory, in great detail

I have many small favorite memories that come to mind.

Twirling Grace in my arms last year. Temples. The Great Barrier Reef. Water that evaporated from beaches in ten minutes or swallow islands in half an hour. Billy coming to my house, laden with a picnic surprise during a migraine, or the tiny jar of romance surprises. Hangout upside down in a chair with Phoenix watching Lilo & Stitch. Singing Phantom with Earl.

The first time I hugged My Girl when I came home, or the way we said goodbye when I left. Listening to my little sister sleep, she used to sound like a percolating coffee pot. And Christmas, the rare and few, when i was surrounded by my family. But as all of these cycle closer, none of them is the core favorite, most pivotal memory that silences all others.

Some of you have been here long enough to pick up on the fact it's been a recurring story for ten years come next year. My favorite memory is of the ocean three hours off the coast of Australia, out near the Great Barrier Reef. I wasn't able to scuba dive my first day down under. There was a fiasco between altitude (flying from America or Australia) and depth (hundreds of feet down).

But out in the middle of that ocean, everyone deep beneath the rocking waves, leaving me in this blanket of the world made of water and sky. Endless both of them going on and on forever. No dot of land in any direction. No connect to life or earth. Only the air, only the water.

The waves were bright metallic under the high summer, and the waves capped a shiny white foam so bright it became silver. Sitting there, watching, knowing just how intimately how small I was in comparison to the whole world. And yet so integral, dominoes and butterflies.

The macrocosm of the universe sang in me and touched every particle of me.
