Is the insistence in my head, since both having a computer tech who knew me/my systems well and four different huge upgrading externals, is that it takes far less time or money to back up everything of import on an external and factory image restore the entire laptop every twelve months or so, when it begins to show its wear in little places -- rather than pay said money or take said time.

Sort of like random technical winter cleaning.

It's the default self-sufficient, lose nothing, shiny blank slate everything, impulse.
